As others have said, BMI is kinda 'eh'. Not useless as a broad medical indicator. But not a great data point on its own.
I lost a lot of weight training for my first boxing match at 165 recently (I was legitimately fat prior). I went to my jogging club a few days before fight day. They saw me with my shirt off and said I looked like a heroin addict. 165 at 5' 11' is just barely in the "normal" range according to BMI. But to our modern eyes (that are used to seeing fatter and generally bigger people!) a "normal" BMI looks tiny. Combine that fact with BMI's lack of including muscle vs fat, etc. in its calculation, and its basically not useful for discussions like this.
