Ive been going on diet lately and i was lookin at my BMI (body mass index). Im right at normal weight.

but according the calculator, basically every UFC HW is not just overweight, but OBESE.

https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmicalc.htm

Feel free to plug in yourself or ur fav fighter to see if they are fit or obese. I know guys cut weight so its harder to analyze the lighter weight classes, but most HWs dont cut weight at all.

brock lesnar at 6’3 265 is morbidly obese.

Are UFC LHWs just cowards?

BMI is a screening tool not, by itself, a diagnostic tool. Doctor's who use it as such are practicing erroneously and it's very common.

That being said, BMI is a good tool to use as a clinical predictor of other health problems for the general population. You don't see a lot of 300lb 80 year olds for a reason.

Relative to other UFC fighters yes. In terms of general population no.

They used to be actually obese but I think now we've mostly moved beyond that. HW is still the least skilled less athlethic division but modern HWs tend to be 6 ft 3+ whereas back in the day DC wasn't really an outlier.

I don't think that takes his body composition into account
I think the point is that someone like brock lesnar who is jacked doesnt necessarily mean he’s healthy. Having that much body mass (obviously unnatural) is not healthy and his heart and lungs are working overtime.

Professional body builders who are extremely jacked and have low body fat, but they have way too much mass.

Tai tuivasa
Chris dauakus
Marcin tybura
Blagoy ivanov

they are all in the top 10 and look very obese.

BMI doesn't take into account individual genetics. I'm 6 foot and got a flat stomach at 105 kg. I'm currently 120 kg but my bloodwork, blood pressure, cholesterole is healthy. Definitely not optimal weight, belly fat is not healthy.

Also depends a lot on bf.

Bmi has to be taken with a grain of salt, everyone is built different.

HW div BMI went way down after Nelson, Hunt, Fatso retired.
And up after Struve retired.

I always said LHW shouldn't exist. 99% are HWs cutting down. We seldom see any LHWs weighing in at 202 or 199. I can only remember Machida in the last 10 years or so.
Many if not most MWs are above 205 year round. That makes em heavyweights.
Have the little guys up to WW, then HW. Go really big or go home.
Would be a deep, great division.
