Are there any libetarians here? I want to join but don't understand what it is.

Its like communism. It can't ever work due to pie in the sky concepts and human nature.

But its funny to me that libertarians are on par with the purple haired retards and yet have the audacity to stick their nose in the air as if they hit a level of enlightenment the rest of us never considereded
America prior to the 30s could be said to be something close to a Libertarian system and 19th century Britain as well.

It’s not a case of “it can’t happen” but just that it isn’t that popular and is easily eroded in a democracy.

Once people start legislating morals and start passing regulations on business (usually started by business to keep competitors out) it falls apart by definition.

It pretty much is impossible to do in a democracy but obviously it wouldn’t be “freedom” under a dictatorship either

Libertarianism is based on free market economics, as in one of the only political movements that is based in mathematics and logic. They believe in less government and more local government. Who decides what's better for you than yourself? And then your family? And then your community? Your city, your country, etc. The closer you get to an individual, the more say they should get in their lives. Many people feel the opposite and feel the government should have more power over people's lives because one size fits all I guess?

They understand that government intervention in the economy always adds a level of inefficiency which causes overall economic output to decrease. And economic output per citizen of a country is strongly linked to the standard of living in that country.

Although a lot of the proponents of it seem to be a little too zealous, there are guys like Ron Paul that do it great justice.

To deny libertarianism and free market economics is to deny mathematics and science. I'm surprised scientific people denounce libertarianism and embrace socialism, given that it is the closest to science that economics gets.

They also believe in freedom and that actions have consequences, and those consequences have consequences, etc. They understand freedom might not always be the best solution, but the cost of restricting freedom is often not worth it.

That and there has never been free markets in the history of this country.

See, it’s a political ideology for nitwits.

Sorry that your small smooth brain can't understand basic economic principles. It's probably why you will stay poor and hope the government steals money from successful people to give you a pittance.

Nah brah

Honestly being a libertarian is kind of a nothing term these days. It seems more like a label used for street credibility than anything.

Read FA Hayeks Road to Serfdom if you really want to understand the roots of legitimate libertarian thought.

What's his main thesis in Road to Sherdog?

I’m not a libertarian but I do speak for them. Here is a video of libertarians summarized.

A classic. Looks like an SNL skit but even more funny and disturbing because it's RL.

Geez, you guys really don't like libertarians.
I think some of them are really good. Not that I always agree with them. But if you have politicians that are forcing you to put a piece of cloth over your face or face fines, your business or job is shutdown and deemed non-essential, or tells you it's illegal to have Thanksgiving with more than 8 people, the Libertarian candidate will probably stand up for your freedoms.

I like this, sounds good and I can get behind that. Finally a good explanation.

I think I want to join but I have no idea what a librarian is. I tried to google it, I can't understand a damn thing about it. Look at this Wikipedia page on libetarianism: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarianism

I can't make heads or tails of it, but I really like some core ideals like small government and let people do what they want as long as they leave others alone. Am I right?

Is any one a libertarian here? Can you explain it to me, I want to join. I don't like the Democrats or Republicans. I really want to give libertarian a shot but I have no idea what I'm getting into. I tell people I am libertarian, then they ask me what do they believe, then I quickly change the subject because i have no idea what the hell I am talking about. lol

I would suggest take this test...

Can’t really remember. I read it 13 years ago when I was illiterate. Aka 20.

but he’s a smart dude who tells it like to is.

If i had to guess, Hayek saw libertarianism more as a life principle that safeguards freedom and liberty more than an economic or governmental framework

Read it. It’s boring as fuck

Yeah my brain must be so smooth to come to the conclusion libertarianism is a mindless ideology and that free markets have never existed at any point in America.

You know how we said libertarians are typically pretentious pseudointellectuals who just want an opportunity to shit on both sides?

<28>

Basically no government but to defend the their property and life. e.g. Army and cops.

Read the enumerated powers to the constitution. Very short list of what government can do and that's about all they tolerate.

And with that we got robber barons, company owned towns including your room, 5 year olds working in factories, people dying of starvation/sickness. Very harsh world unless your in the 1%.

It's unrealistic and fiction made for 13 yr old boys.

Very good suggestion, thanks man. I took the test as you said. This is what i got:

Does this make me a libetarian?

Libertarians have a lot of good ideas but to some extent they take free trade and the military for granted

For example, they will talk about how free trade is awesome but also speak with disdain that America is the world police, when the American Navy is the reason you can pull products from one side of the world and safely ship it to another side of the world.

They’re also proponents of things like flat tax rates which is just dumb, you obviously don’t want to treat the rich like some cow and milk them for all they got, but a progressive tax system is simply more efficient.
