I think it is a small town/small country-phenomena. Coming from a small nation like Denmark, who never really had strong martial arts-traditions, I'll root for any Dane, because it is so damn rare I get to see one. If you are from the U.S. and you go bonkers every time you see a countryman in the cage, you'll probably end up with a heart-attack.

No, I cheer for fighters who have outstanding qualities in the manner in which they compete. The "it" factor.

I definitely first paid attention to Stipe Miocic because I am also a child of Croatian immigrants. But the more I learned about him, the more I liked him for his own merits. He certainly wouldn't be my favorite if he were an asshole, no matter what his birth.
