NFL Are NFL athletes the best in ball sports?

When trying to make a point if all you can use is........one......example why even bother. It takes a number of examples to stress a point.

When I talk speed in the NFL I use TONS of examples. To talk just.....Tyreek Hill,,,,won't work.

Bottom line ,,,

This thread is about which ball sport has the best athletes, that is without question the NFL thanks to 30 Olympians TON TONS of athletes in other sports,

Nobody is talking about which sport you like.

No doubt if any of them wanted to get into combat sports they'd start training for that.
When trying to make a point if all you can use is........one......example

Canzio, I merely need to find one counterexample to the statement "if any of them wanted to......."

Hardy spent years training solely for MMA. He was a train-wreck and inspired zero confidence that out of shape linemen can become fighters of any sort.

Pretty obvious in a 20 Man Battle Royale the NFLers all over 320 pounds would destroy the rugbyites.

Very obvious the NFLers win the tug a war.

Real obvious the NFLers win....

100
200
400
4x1 relay
4x4 relay
weight lifting
long jump
high jump
110 hurdles
wrestling
basketball game
400 hurdles
triple jump
all the throws
1500
decathlon
poe vault

Rugby simply doesn;t have the athletes to compete.

I can gives names of NFLersfor all those events, while we will get.....0.....rugbyites.

Example

4x1 relay....Olympians...Ron Brown...Jim Hines...Sam Graddy...Bob Hayes All sub 10.10

Who can give me the rugbyites who would be in those events I mentioned?

Prediction......can't be done.

NFL has 13 Olympians up there. NCAA champs,

He was a defensive end too, and they are by far the most athletic of the linemen.

Another good one. Refrigerator Perry losing a fight to the older basketball player Manute Bol. Theres strong suspicion that Bol was much, much older than his claimed age too.

6-5 240 4.35 40

Real obvious a whole other level of thletes in the NFL than.......SLOW.....rugby

Mike Alstott 6-1 250

Think what that monster would do vs smaller, weaker and far SLOWER rugbyites, OUCH~~~~~~~~~

When ESPN did their TOP 10 NFL POWER BACKS.....that monster at number 10, think about that.

Rugby has never seen anyhting remotely close t this.

Twice Alabama Decathlon Champion

Obviously he was a Raider, just think he can't make that Raider all time 100m, A 10.39 just won't work.

The Raiders can fill 8 lanes with sub 10.20 sprinters.

So many stud NFLers, hell still have....

Jim Brown, Cookie Gilchrist, Vernon Davis, Herschel Walker, John Mackey, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Pete Johnson, hell.....TANK Younger, THUNDER Thornton, Mack THE TRUCK Lee Hill---this cat has to be seen to be believed, averaged over 5 yards a carry bangin the line, total monstrosity.

Rugby is simply......too SLOW~~~~~~~~~~

NFL player highlight vids are generally not very impressive imho. Its not even that they arent good athletes, its that the sport itself is too limited and one dimensional for them to be able to express it the way you can in a lot of other sports. You'll see a HL video of some ATG beast, and its just some dude running with the ball same as you'll see in rugby, except hes got blockers to help him and is usually facing less defenders who are also typically less competent tacklers. And thats pretty much ALL he does.

So in a game where everyone out there all 15 of them just how many times in a game does anyone carry the ball having to share it with 14 others?

And......playing against a gang of slow pokes is a lot different than what we see in the NFL.

Hard to believe any sport full of x tracksters, wrestlers, basketballers, baseballers is debated vs a sport where nobody did other things BEFORE.

Yep, all about where ya live.

I;v seen rugby, the sportis simply way too,.....SLOW.

There are no word class speedsters anywhere to be found.

Lomu ruled during his time, the guy would be way too slow for the NFL.

Last major rugby game, Leicester vs Saracens -

Olly Cracknell, 6'3,267lbs - 20 carries, 10 tackles
Maro Itoje 6'5,260lbs - 15 carries, 14 tackles
Tom Willis 6'3, 265lbs - 14 carries, 14 tackles
Theo McFarland 6'6, 254lbs - 10 carries, 16 tackles
Cameron Henderson 6'7, 260lbs - 8 carries, 14 tackles

The last Superbowl -

Leading carriers:

Saquon Barkley 6'0 232lbs - 25 carries
Jalen Hurts 6'1, 223lbs - 11 carries
Kenneth Gainwell 5'9, 200lbs - 6 carries
Patrick Mahomes 6'2, 225lbs - 4 carries
Kareem Hunt 5'11, 216lbs - 3 carries

Leading tacklers -

Drue Tranquill 6'2, 234lbs - 11 tackles
Nick Bolton 5'11, 237lbs - 9 tackles
Justin Reid - 6'1 207lbs - 7 tackles
Chamarri Conner 6'0 202lbs - 6 tackles
Trent McDuffie 5'11, 193lbs - 5 tackles

Two observations:

1) Multiple guys on the rugby team made more tackles than anyone at the Superbowl while SIMULTANEOUSLY making more carries than all but one player of the almost hundred that were suited up for the SB.

2) Look at the size of the rugby guys making runs and tackles vs the NFL guys.

Nothing changes the fact rugby has too many guys out there with no other skills but rugby, and the big guys aren;t as big as the big NFLers, and the difference in speed with the fast guys is staggering.

Bottom line

The best athletes without question play in the NFL and it;s not close at all.

Have a track meet the NFL would destroy rugby, same in everything else.

Rugby has never had a Milt Campbell, Bo Jackson, Larry Allen, MEGATRON, Brenden Jacobs etc etc etc.

Have yet to have anyone give me a rugbyite who starred in another sport pre pro rugby days,

Was looking for another list of the fastest rugbyites.....

At number 3

Dan Norton (England): Dan Norton, an English rugby sevens specialist, has made a name for himself as one of the fastest players in the game. With a 100m personal best of 10.71 seconds, Norton possesses remarkable speed. His acceleration and top speed, estimated at around 34 kilometers per hour (21 mph), have resulted in numerous memorable tries for England in the World Rugby Sevens

A 10.71?

Just the Raiders

Cliff Branch 10.1ht
Jacoby Ford 10.01
Ron Brown 10.06
Alvis Whitted 10.07
Sam Graddy 10.09
James Jett 10,16
James Trapp 10.14
Willie Gault 10.10
Michael Bennett 10.18
Tim Dwight 10, 33
Bo Jackson 10.39
Napolean Kaufman won Cali State 10,4ish
Justin Fargas won Cali State 10.4ish

A fast guy at 10.71..........that's atually comical,

Female world record.....10.49, the fast girls run 10.6ish.

The difference in speed between the two sports is incredible, at least a 1000 NFLers over the years could break a 10.70.

Works like this......

9.0...9.9
9.1....10.0
9.2.....10.10
9,3.....10.20
9.4.....10.30
9,5.....10.40
9;6.....10.50
9.7.....10.60
9.8.....10.70

Talking 100 yards vs 100 meter ttimes

Back in the 30's Packer WR Don Hutson was also a 9.8 sprinter.

John Riggins won the Kansas State 100 in a 9.8 as a HS kid.

Jim Thorpe way way back when, a 9.8 guy.

Funny reading......remarkable speed......and then 10.71, hahahaaha~~~

A 10.70 won't make that Cali HS Boys 100m final.

Well, a 9.8 would have won this Cali HS Boys 100, ah.....1929,

1 Jim Willson San Diego 9.8 1929
2 Carroll Maas Fresno
3 Vernon Jordan Jefferson
4 Al Koenig Huntington Beach
5 Jim Tyack Bakersfield
