Social Are forums a thing of the past?

As long as Reddit is still a thing, forums will continue.
Reddit isn't a true forum. It's a public billboard.

It really is a bit disconcerting how short the attention span of the new generation is. I know this was a complaint about my generation by my own parents and grandparents, and to a degree they were right, but holy shit. When any video or text or thought that takes longer than 8 seconds to get across is too long...what's the point of having a memory? Might as well be goldfish.

I can't imagine the horrors of what a 'Sherdog TikTok' would have unleashed on the world if that had been the form which MMA-related 'discussion' took over the last 20 years

I have already seen this type of thread 10 years ago here. Forums have technically been obsolete since MySpace or something already, but they have a unique appeal for people with specific interests so yes, they are a thing of the past, and no, they will never stop existing.

The vast majority of people are not using forums. They are on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. Reddit is the modern version of what forums were in their heyday, right down to the shitty moderators.

There's a few pockets on the Internet with a sizeable community like sherdog but most of the forums I used to frequent are dead and haven't been replaced. There are no "new" forums, just slowly dying ones. The few of us that remain don't like mainstream social media sites, otherwise we would be there instead.

Kiwifarms is like 10 years old, sfdebris forum is chugging along, that is kinda new.

Elaborate.

Depending on the subreddit you can very much get something similar to a forum like this. They have mods, they have a community, they have long-term posters, etc. The threads people are making in the UFC subreddit aren't really any different than what people are posting in the heavies, just a lot more of an active userbase.

lol did you really come over here from camel dog? That place was started by like some dickheads that got banned from here. They used to come over here all the time back in the day and spam advertisements on here with troll accounts

You just described every offshoot ever right here bud

Yeah sherdog and forums in general have been declining for some time now. Most of us that have been here for awhile are probably middle aged or older.

We're from an earlier era of the internet.
