Are you American?

its funny when you look at some of these 'US' fighters
guy is born in nigeria, immigrates to US when a kid, now hes american
lots of mexicans in the exact same situation
its funny how some ppl are proud to say they are 'american'. Are all immigrants treated the same, tho? What dont you open your borders then?
i dont buy this, im sorry. I can only see Kamaru, for instance, as nigerian. Im not taking anything from USA, which still has the most champs, and this is unlikely to be changed, especially considering the 'sport' is OWNED by US investors, and most investments are in the US as well. Events, gyms, nutrition, even the rules were changed favoring wrestlers.

America does great at the Olympics and has the worst (i.e. essentially non-existent) state support in the entire world. Soon-to-be Olympic gold medalists work in Starbuck's to afford a place to live so they can train their asses off to rep their country. And despite having to concern themselves with paying the bills, they still kill it (especially) at the Summer Olympics every 4 years.

So no, lack of state support has never held back Americans from athletic excellence.
lack of state support is a myth, some niche sports maybe but there are billions spent nationally at the federal, state and even county levels for many "mainstream" sports. If you are an water polo hopefully maybe not, but the wrestlers, track stars and swimmers you get a lot of support. Proportionally as much as russia or china? maybe not but on pure dollar wise its definitely equal, add sports where there is more than enough private support ie basketball, tennis etc the US has some of the best funded athletes with the best facilities in the world.

But that is all besides the point, the US is doing great in the olympics and the US is the "home" of mma and is by far the most dominant country currently.

And then give it all to an Irishman.
This thread is complete nonsense but your point doesn't work. All the PPV money comes from Americans and it's given to a Russian and an Irishman with some of the 1% in the US taking the rest of it.
It's not making you richer.
it actually does make usa richer, you just dont get it
ufc is usa company and contributes to usa GDP.... you think khabib and conor's pay is anywhere close to ufc's take? lol you havent the slightest clue about how the economy works

All proudly represent their origins
I see no USA flag on Stipe's short for an example
Still american citizens,Stipe proudly yelling OH Henry and Usman representing USA in olympics masvidal havig the east coast west coast ganster feud with nate diaz

funny I hear an american accent when usman speaks, not a nigerian one

and he is a product of the american sports system, not the nigerian sports system, therefore he represents the athletic success the american system produces, not the nigerian system

26 years ago no-holds-barred fighting was supposed to prove what the greatest martial art was, here we are today and I think the answer is pretty clear mixed martial arts as a style is superior to every other discipline ever created however I've noticed that the United States has fewer mixed martial arts gyms then I expected by now.

I expected mixed martial arts to take over the world but today if you search for MMA on Google Maps 99% of the results will be Brazilian jiu-jitsu gyms.

Royce Gracie was a Phenom No Doubt but we don't see anybody walking into the ring in a Jiu-Jitsu Gi nowadays however 99% of your training opportunities in 99% of America's hometowns is traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

why has Brazilian jiu-jitsu dominated the the American martial arts market for so many years and it's almost impossible to find pure mixed martial arts as a style in most of America's towns?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu doesn't have video games or TV shows or betting odds like MMA however it dominates the martial arts Marketplace!

I really feel like the rest of the world is leaving America in the dust and the fact that we are the biggest country with the best technology and the best athletes and still don't dominate the grappling Sports and MMA is a bit of a cluster.

In a lot of countries the state actually has free gymnasiums where people can go train in Combat Athletics meanwhile in America all our training opportunitys are private for-profit businesses who sweat liability and prioritize profits.

don't let the UFC rankings fool you,
I don't think the UFC has the best fighters in the world I think they put on the best fights in the world there's a difference!
“mixed martial arts as a style is superior to every other discipline”
This is illogical.

he was born in Nigeria. Indeed he lived in the US most his life and trained in US gyms. He wears Nigeria flag. To me, he is still nigerian.

I've met a quite a few immigrants, most of them very poor. They lived in the US most of their lives too and became a product of american society, to use your words. Do you consider them Americans?

ok so when someone tells him to go back to nigeria ha cant reply "I'm american" , since as you just concluded, he is nigerian and not american..... stupid logic

but that's not the point i was making... the point is related to the title of the thread, he is a product of american fight/athletic system, thus "america is not falling behind in mma"

The US's weakness to me seems to be when you move beyond collage level theres a sudden drop in public funding, up until that point honestly I think funding is better than it is in most western countries certainly waaaaaaaay better than it is in the UK.

As far as BJJ gyms being more popular than MMA gyms I would say the reason is BJJ is a MA you can train/compete in to quite a high level without being at much risk of injury with makes it attractive to a lot of the public.

america aint and wont fall behind in UFC, for several reasons, I wrote just a few.
indeed he is a product of american fight/athletic system, which produces (in mass amounts) a lot of good fighters.
on that we agree
IMO he still nigerian, tho. I truly believe in place of birth for this judgement. Regardless of what the person decides to be in future.

This is illogical.

I don't think so

I think it is inherently Superior because it takes what works and discards the rest*
