Askren needs to take Paul into the later rounds and gas him out. Paul looks good in the training videos he releases, but training isn't the same as competition. Paul is a youtuber who is doing boxing because it's what gets him views. If he was as serious about it as he says he would be working his way up through the boxing circuit, not fighting ex athletes and celebrities.
Askren has years of high level competition and training under his belt, and with that experience will be able to make the right adjustments as the fight progresses. He'll make it ugly for the first few rounds, and avoid any big shots. By that time fatigue will set in for Paul, and then it becomes a question of whether he can push through that or not.

TLDR: Paul is an unproven wanna be youtube boxer who looks good in training, Askren is a proven high level competitor with terrible striking. It's a toss up.

On Rogan's podcast, GSP basically admitted he thinks Askren's going to lose and just hopes Ben doesn't make MMA look too bad.

I know that he has notoriously poor striking sure. But that’s in the realm of other PROFESSIONAL fighters. Yeah I mean you can say Jake Paul beat up Nate Robinson that’s cool and true but he’s a basketball player NOT a former professional fighter. I have a hard time believing that even a retired injured retired fighter doesn’t blow away a YouTube with a few years of amateur experience and some high school wrestling credentials.

Jake Paul is not a fighter. He’s a multi million dollar prankster with access to training that makes him FEEL like an athlete or fight.

Ben Askren on the other hand is a real fighter.

Check Askren hitting the pads, he is bad there too. Which is shocking for a World Champion MMA fighter as even people with just a few months experience look great on pads. Some people just suck at certain things, Askren's seems to be punching. I hope he wins though,

Jake Paul is a good boxer. Nowhere near close to elite, but he's got some skills.

They will most likely be wearing head gear, so I don't see anyone getting knocked out. Ben's only real chance is a decision.

Simple. Askren = mma fighter with very little striking in his style. But the little experience he has is mma striking, not boxing

Jake Paul = amateur level boxer. Boxing and mma striking are completely different. Paul has been boxing for years. Askren has been boxing for a few months.

Paul by decision.

Simple. Askren = mma fighter with very little striking in his style. But the little experience he has is related to striking.

Jake Paul = amateur level boxer. Boxing and mma striking are completely different. Paul has been boxing for years. Askren has been boxing for a few months.

Paul by decision.
Askren will feel the difference. The inside fighting in Boxing doesn't exist in MMA. When you get inside on your opponent in MMA, it immediately turns to grappling. When you get that close to eachother in boxing there's a whole different game being played with body shots, headmovement, energy systems etc...

Not only will Askren lose, he will lose bad.

I see your analogy but here’s the truth.

ben Askren trains striking not boxing exactly but striking in a professional atmosphere around KILLERS for his entire career. Even though he’s not exactly a boxer that doesn’t mean those skills just aren’t existent .

but I totally see where u coming from bruh

Disclaimer: I lost an AV bet, unfortunately. Just so you know lol.

Now,
the closer this fight approaches, the less confident I am in Askren having any real chance of winning. I've heard the likes of Chael and a couple of others say that Askren will win by virtue of "being a competitor" but I don't buy that.
Yes , he's a competitor - a former competitor, who happens to not only be retired, but 36 years old, coming off of hip surgery and he's inconveniently competing in a sport he happens to be absolutely horrendous at.

So what's this competitor stuff? He's not gonna die in there? He's gonna survive eating punches until Jake gasses and then beat him up in the clinch? Idk about all that.

Look, Jake Paul is a clown and nothing would be more glorious to witness on screen than to see him get laid out cold by Ben but if we're being objective here, the kid is young, in good shape, bigger, and he's been taking the sport seriously for a couple of years now.

It's really hard to imagine anything other than Ben collecting the sorriest paycheck of his life - for getting beat up by an obnoxious Youtuber.

Please convince me otherwise Sherbros. I want to have hope!!

You're right on this. Askren's only route to victory is making it a messy fight for Paul to tire him out, but this fight is only 8 rounds. Worst thing that happens is Paul gasses by round 6, by that point all he has to do is clinch to a decision win. Askren has no boxing KO power.

Very low probability of Askren getting either a finish or decision win.

Ben's striking level has always been pathetic, his only chance of winning is Jake tiring.
It's sad but true that Ben is giving him basically the only named MMA opponent that he has a chance to beat.

Paul is rubbish, he is a terrible boxer when someone says he has skills my eyes bleed.

I see children in my gym with boxing fundamentals better than Paul:

it is still enough to beat a horrible amateur like Jake Paul, Askren is a professional athlete at another level.

there is no bigger advantage in a face punching competition when your 25 and first got punched in the face at 23. And nobody has ever put it on you as there is a way out.

and you can’t prepare a very rich kid against that unless you just beat his ass repeatedly for many rounds and during the point of exhaustion.

he has men cheerleading and staging cheers. It’s a show. He’s good at it. He took Ben because he watched a compilation of YouTube striking.

there has never been a human who got into fighting at 23 and has the sage and talent to overcome anything in the fighting world. Especially a millionaire who made millions of pretending false reality to kids online. And shaping opinions.

shit. I’m going or askren and I’m an old chunk of coal. But I wouldn’t mind seeing Paul win. I would like to see how far he can take his schtick.

I watch fights for entertainment. I don’t pledge allegiance.
So for the best outcome of my entertainment. Would be if Paul won.

it’s hard to explain. But I’m not emotionally invested in anyone I don’t know personally. So. I’ll root for Ben. But if Jake wins it would be better for my future entertainment as he’s a dipshit but I don’t mind dipshits in these side show fights.

many prize fighter it’s not about moral character it’s about who is the funnest to watch in the ring or cage to me.

Ben has some of the worst striking ever seen. He's never, ever hurt anyone on the feet. So Jake Paul's ability to take a punch isn't going to come into play.

Askren just needs to point fight because it's really his only chance unless Jake gasses so bad he can't fight back.

He’s a fucking professional athlete

He's a fucking amazing wrestler but he's also an anomaly that his fantastic wrestling athleticism had absolutely no translation too his striking prowess.
His striking is comparable to amateurs in a regional promotion.
