Apocalypse Now, now.

The bombing scenes were insane. Now of course a lot of movies have big explosions, but to have practical/real explosions on that scale, and shown so beautifully was actually freaking me out. Like "holy shit did they really do that?" I don't think a studio would be allowed to do that nowadays.

The movie was shot in the Philippines. The iconic opening scene of the palm trees burning under a napalm strike entailed around twelve hundred gallons of gasoline. Some in 55 gallon drums. Tires were also burned to generate more smoke for the shot. I believe about 5 acres of forest was destroyed in the scene. It was all done from the ground. They only had one chance to get the shot done right. Here is better footage...

Sadly when I'm watching the movie, about 2/3rd through there was a weird 30 mins sequence with some french guys arguing and shit.

You must have watched the 'uncut' version, or 'director's edition'.

I want the hat that Robert Duvall is wearing,

Join the 1st Cavalry Division, one of the most decorated combat Divisions of the U.S. Army. It is based at Fort Hood, Texas. I spent time with those boys. They traded their horses for tanks and helicopters. Not a great place to be stationed. Dry, semi-desert conditions.

Did you see a young, not yet famous, Harrison Ford in that scene?

It was post American Graffiti even if Starwars hadn't been released yet when it was filmed.

Besides Heart of Darkness itself I would say that the similarly inspired Aguirre Wrath of God has more than a little influence on Apoc Now

I still haven't finished it.

I'm like 80% in and I just never got around to watching the rest.

I love the Do Long scene. Roach was a bad man.

I saw Tropic Thunder(my favorite movie) before Apocalypse Now and didn't know/realize it was a parody. Tropic Thunder was even funnier to me after watching Apocalypse Now haha

Also this,

What the the difference between the Redux and The Final Cut? I found a Blu Ray that comes with all three cuts as well as Hearts of Darkness.
