Anyone Notice UFC rarely can make stars ?

It's not easy. You need the right combination of factors to make a star. Not everyone is capable of putting on insane fights or has an attention getting personality. Having both is even rarer.

They need to find a way to get their people more TV and celebrity exposure outside the octagon. Also some sort of acting and PR coaching would be good to bring out their personalities. Once Chael comes back they should hire him to teach guys how to give a promo.

yep.

i think the ufc is focused on furthering it's brand, rather than the brand of it's fighters atm (which seems like bad strategy, but what do i know)

UFC will still be here when every fighter on their current roster is dead. Logic is your friend.

You dont know what stars are dude. Main eventing a show doesnt mean you are a star.

Everyone comes up in another org, very few guys step into the UFC with 0 fights.

And orgs dont make stars, a fighter either has it or they dont. You can be a great fighter and not be a star no matter how hard an org pushes you or you can just have that it factor and come to the UFC and become a star.

The UFC can't make stars.

They can promote the fighters on the roster, but they only tend to do this with fighters that are already good at self promotion unless there is a way to hype a beef of course.

What I wish they would do is invest in the fighters by creating a self promotional branch of the company. The idea is not to create entertainment schtick, but to foster good social media and interview conduct, cultivate some personalities, and avoid certain verbal pitfalls that tend to resonate with fans.

Teach some of them how to trash talk properly.
Learn to manage their responses and soundbites during interviews.
How to get away from the routine questions and answers from the media dolts.

Politicians do this stuff all the time. The technology exists, invest in it.

I absolutely agree with that

a generic quote about fighting whoever the ufc wants doesn't get anyone to give a shit. calling out the champ is generic too, bit much better. a specific call out and some trash talk will get people talking.

I think most guys are just overwhelmed the first few times, and then it just becomes a habit.

Wrong Don Frye and Ken Shamrock originated in the UFC and then moved to Pride

Who makes stars?

Is there a star making company? I'm sure they're very good at what they do.

No sport can make "stars" of guys that don't have that special quality.

Sometimes sports try and manufacture stars from competitors that don't have that magical quality, but it's obvious to the fans they're being sold snake-oil.

Jones and Rousey are the only two with the combination of personality and talent, but their personalities mostly stand out as being negative.

They just don't have any top fighters who are as cool/badass as chuck or wanderlei or Fedor........ as superhero-esque as Randy Couture or GSP.

Nah, I just think some fighters don't like to talk shit so yeah.

Look at Mayweather, talks bunch of shit and is undefeated?? Who doesn't wanna see him lose?

Look at McGregor, talks bunch of shit and is an exciting fighter with a unique style?? Who doesn't wanna see that shit?

The ufc promotes the fighters. It's the fighter's job to build themselves.

That's what most of these idiots don't understand. Dana doesn't like indeoendent people. Notice how during the 'star building' he always has to have his face plastered somewhere near it, like he's doing the fighting. People who don't think he's bad as Don King are blind. If you think for yourself and don't huff his farts he'll throw you under the bus in a heartbeat.

here's the big difference, and i dont like defending egghead.

UFC is spending crap tons of money trying to make this thing a global, legitimate sport. It's completely different than slimy boxing promoters, slithering their way in. UFC does a ton of stuff for the sport, and Dana is the media guy. Unless you go out of your way to disrespect dana,

I don't think he really has much say in who they keep if someone is a legitimate talent. If you're like Mayhem Miller, yeah Dana didn't like him at all and used the first excuse to get rid of him. Don King never let a star get away from him.

they should have built Mayhem Mller up, used his popularity from MTV and stuff and milked it. but they threw him in with hard fights to see if he could float. UFC doesn't mess around. It's sink or swim.

They actually do this, they have annual meetings and advisors for all the fighters for accounting and managment and media work.

All the personality has been wrung out the sport. And any mechanisms to produce stars, like TUF, are dried up.

Plus there are too many fighters, too many cards. And yet, nobody is fighting... Nobody can distinguish themselves.

Too many fighters in too many divisions now. Not to mention all of the point fighting now.

Dana White other then maybe Ronda Rousey gets more exposure then anyone and he's not even a fighter or former fighter or coach. Just some bald sleazy loud mouth who happen to have rich friends.

I am not a Dana fan, far from it, but he has done more than how you painted him.

This is pretty lol timing, one day after Mcgoater dominates and shakes up the MMA world.

They have three stars.

Jones, Weidman, Rousey.

Jones flopped big time, he failed to take MMA to the next level like we thought he could five years ago but he's the best fighter in the game right now. Weidman will eventually surpass him.

Weidmans knees will crap out on him before he ever becomes the best.

.

First line is almost a direct quote from dana. "this thing" gave it away

The rest though, "ton of stuff for the sport" and "crap tons of money". it's like the ghost of adam smith just posted on sherdog. im gonna go get a crap ton of money and "milk" it. sound advice really
