So... both of my rotator cuffs aren't great. I have had a referral to a specialist for scans for potentially getting it.

For those not familiar: basically: "Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is a treatment that uses a concentration of platelets derived from your own blood to promote healing in injured tissues. It is commonly used for conditions like tendon injuries, arthritis, and hair loss, although its effectiveness can vary."

Just thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with this?

Is that like Regenokine? Joe Rogan had Regenokine done and said he had good results for neck and back issues he had.

Never heard of Regenokine. I'd have to look that up...

Interesting:

So kind of similar but not precisely the same.

Similar idea but they do a whole lot more filtering with Regenokine to avoid components of the blood that may cause inflammation when injected back into that area... also due to the extra steps, it sounds like its far more expensive.

I don’t but anecdotally had 2 friends do it for their knees with good results. I am likely to do the same myself in a couple of months.

If it's the one where they spin your blood in a centrifuge to extract what they want, know a guy also who tried it for knee issues. He said it worked for almost a year but then symptoms returned. He got it scoped after.

Had my shoulder scoped for what was a misdiagnosed labral tear 3 years ago and has been good since. People shit talk cortisone shots but had one of them for a hand issue 5 years ago and has been good since as well. Unfortunately seems like one of those things that gets varying results from person to person.

I did for my right rotator cuff. I would say it's a better option than steroids since it's natural from your own body. It still involves a lot of rehab work and you have to be in a sling for a week, but it's a better alternative to surgery. If your rotator cuff is not fully torn, rehab well, and change up your movements so as to not injure it again, I would say the prognosis is pretty good

I would have liked to try stem cells as I think that's a more complete fix. However both PRP and stem cells are not covered by health insurance. I had a talk with my sports doctor and he insinuated that the American Surgical Association has a lot of power so there's just not a lot of funding for research into these non surgical treatments

Wow, wasn't expecting that much to be injected back into the shoulder. This guy got six decent sized needles worth of PRP injected back in.

Have you dialed back your training regime in the interim till you work out if it's a viable option? Is it as a result of over training?
Note, Arthritis is why I needed both of my hips replacing due to overuse sport wise so if you can go down a not such an invasive route it sounds like a no brainer.

I have not but I'll be watching this thread with great interest since my fucked up shoulder is really interfering with my ability to lift weights effectively.

Yeah, motivation was never an issue with me so overtraining was a serious problem over the years. I was still training hard 4-5 days a week into my 40's but I have been forced to cut right back and act like a middle aged man (for once LOL)

I just went and saw a surgeon who looked at the MRI of my right shoulder and her first words were "Ooh wow... I bet that was fun" End result, she said there were a lot of surgeons that would give it a shot... but it probably wouldn't help and that she has more patients than she can see already and won't waste either of our time and money. Go do PRP instead... I appreciated that.

The guy in the video I linked seems to have the exact same symptoms that I have and three and a half weeks after treatment, he said he felt at least 85% better so that's super encouraging.

Watch the video I linked.

I have an initial appointment on 2nd May (probably just scans etc) but I'll update the thread as I go.

I did in my ankle after a surgery didn't go as good as hoped. hurt like hell for a day after but got better very quickly. Of course it only lasted about a month though.

The recovery or the positive effect from PRP only lasted a month?

Never done it. I had dislocated my shoulder probably about 100 times. I finally got surgery. Them o got a cortisone shot, and it has been fine ever since.

I never needed TRT, or plasma, or to suck on the blood of a virgin, or any of that Rogan shit.
