Anyone had PRP therapy?

I was fortunate enough that my medical insurance cocked up and gave me this for free - also for my rotator cuffs. Alone it won’t do anything without a good physio program.
But it worked for you?

Honestly alone it did nothing. A few months later I did the physio which helped. But everyone’s different. Are you paying for it ?
I am going for the first consult and ultrasounds with the doctor initially.

I have no idea if my health insurance pays anything for it. I should look into it.

Have you tried physiotherapy? How bad are your rotator cuffs?

Yes, for over 3 months. Fixed most of it, just range of motion and whenever I try to do pushing motions away from my body, it hurts... think a wide grip push up etc. Even 10kg starts hurting really quickly.

What’s your diagnosis ? Poor range of motion and pain after 10 Kg with 3 months of consistent therapy ?

I was scanning the referral to send it off today and it just says torn rotator cuff in both shoulders :(
Sorry to read that. Yes that makes sense now. Does it say how big the tear is ? Ie - in mm etc ? Or if it’s a minor / major tear ?

No, I have MRI's... I have no idea how the fuck to interpret the pictures though.

Originally, there was other stuff wrong like bursitis in the right shoulder... and something else but time, copious amounts of alcohol and months of physio fixed most of that stuff.

No I mean in the report. It doesn’t state the degree of the tear either by radiologist or orthopedic ?

Have you dialed back your training regime in the interim till you work out if it's a viable option? Is it as a result of over training?
Note, Arthritis is why I needed both of my hips replacing due to overuse sport wise so if you can go down a not such an invasive route it sounds like a no brainer.
I had an MRI a couple of months ago and will likely have to go through hip replacement within the next year. If you don't mind me asking, how long were you out of work? I have mostly a desk job but am responsible for a large portion of the plant so I have to be mobile as well.

It's been a couple of months. I'd have to go find it but I don't remember it giving any kind of measurement for the tears.

I'm just happy to try PRP first as I've already had three shoulder surgeries and would prefer not to add to the list.

Okay sorry you didn’t mention this in your OP and the impression I got was that it was just general wear and tear. If you’ve had three surgeries then I would say go for the PRP.

Yeah but thankfully no surgeries for a long time. I had 2 x at 25 (20 years ago) and 1 x in my early 30's, so nothing for 12 years now.

I imagine a couple of decades of weights, sports and various different martial arts have fucked them up pretty good. Oh well, we all make choices in life.

So did this happen over time or an injury or two ?

They mostly felt OK, then September or October last year, my right shoulder went catastrophically bad... worst pain I've ever had, probably the bursitis, only thing that worked to kill the pain was booze. Got scans and the doctor said, he could forward me to a surgeon or try physio first. I obviously picked physio as, fuck surgery.

Even after months of physio and trying to build up muscles around it, chronic pain was gone but still not good. More scans, forwarded to a surgeon who referred me to another doctor for PRP next Friday.

I wish you a sound recovery.

I was lucky enough to not work. Till I was fully up and about 6 weeks but had I been really hardcore with therapy a month.
Start a thread on it and tag me in so I don't miss it, there's a few of us who have had hip/knee replacements here. My problems started in 2010 and I got mine done 3 years ago. Don't wait that long. I know I did damage to other areas as a result of putting it off.
