I'm sorry, but that fight looked like Almeida was trying to not finish Lewis. I mean... Lewis gave up, Lewis literally gave up, and Almeida would not finish him. It looked like he was purposefully throwing enough punches to just keep the position while making sure Lewis would make it to the end.

I don't know, that was the weirdest fight I ever seen, I don't know how else to explain what happened other than Almeida did not want to finish Lewis.

Almeida was also not that gassed, he had plenty of energy to chain takedowns but no energy to throw more than 1 punch every 20 seconds in mount while Lewis was sleeping?

He tried many times in the beginning, but Lewis came prepared, probably since he already lost in this way and he knew what was coming. Which also shows that Jailton is not stupid, he knows that trying submission every 2 seconds for 5 rounds is not gonna favor him.

Nah, he was playing it safe and wanted to catch him when Lewis tried to explode up. But Lewis didn’t do that often and he never found it leading to an uneventful fight.

No he just gassed hard after the first few rounds, and Lewis is good at controlling hands

Almeida should have done something other than full mount to get better angles to punch. But he just wants to get submissions. He's like a jiu-jitsu player more than an MMA fighter in that regard. But even the Gracies knew in 1993 that you had to punch to get openings for a sub (well except against Jimmerson) (or Ben Spijkers)

I think he might’ve overtrained stand up this camp for his fight with Blaydes.

Regardless he skunked Lewis.

He probably got paid like 15/15k for this.

my guess is he bet on the fight going to decision at +1200 and then did everything he could to make sure it did.
honestly I kinda believe it. if you are.so overwhelming better and can control the fight, I don't see why he wouldn't

$10k bet gets him $120k way more than any ko or sub bonus would

Almeida seemed technically superior but vastly undersized in this fight. Unable to finish his opponent despite Lewis giving up full mount, his back each round, and Almeida blanketing for 15 mn in the entire fight.

Yeah if he probably could have stopped it with strikes if he really wanted to. There were times when BB literally didn't move for stretches. Bizarre the lack of inactivity at points.

Felt like that in the first round, maybe some gentleman's agreement for Lewis taking the fight on short notice.

Bring back Olenik for a title shot if Almeida ever becomes champ imo.

absolutely, dude never opened up with his strikes from mount, never went for any armbars, triangles, etc. a total garbage performance with repeated warnings from the ref. disgusting.

He finished the fight doing a lap around the ring, and he wrestled hard even in the latter rounds.

Lewis only tried controlling his hands for like 3 rounds, by 4 and 5, Lewis wasn't even trying to block punches and was just sleeping. Almeida just slept on top of him until Goddard yelled, then he'd tap Lewis a few times and wake him up.

He was taking it safe AF, he knew what he was going against and it was his opportunity to get a headliner win at home, cant fault him, decent call out i think.

He played a more dangerous game by not finishing Lewis, since every round starts on the feet, and it just feels like he could have finished Lewis anytime he wanted once round 3 came around and Lewis stopped trying to stop any transition from Almeida and was barely even hand fighting anymore, and just slept on the ground.
