Social Anyone Collect Sports Cards

Found this in the Christmas ornaments this

Wow. Vernon Davis looked completely different back then. lol

I've got a collection of boxing cards but other than that I don't collect. I wish I had begun collecting UFC cards back when they first came out though. Some of those are really nice.

Are these the one's with diamonds in them? I've seen hockey ones with diamonds. Saw one guy pull a Gordie Howe with 3 diamonds in it......

This has one at the 11:30 mark.

For the sake of buying one pack, I bought a $5 pack of 16 cards of Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker. DON'T BUY. This is like the lowest effort shit garbage. The card backs are just the Star Wars TROS logo. No write up, no stats, no trivia, no alternate photo.

I got cards of two of the Knights of Ren.

i collected a lot when i was younger (2000s-early 2010s); mainly football, but some baseball & basketball. i have a couple shoeboxes full of all my autograph cards, jersey cards, misc relic cards, #d limited edition cards & meaningful rookie cards, sleeved & in toploaders. they’ve been in storage for years, so it’s been awhile since i actually went through them to see what has maintained their value to this day & what hasn’t (or what has since found value). i doubt i have anything that exceeds any value in the $80-100+ range, & i’m sure the PSA grades are majority < 9.0

Man.... Even though I have a ton of old cards, I really wish I never played games with those old cards in the 80s or stick em on the spokes of my bike. I'm wondering how many hockey rookie cards I destroyed, or early Wayne Gretzky gems I massacred. Dammit! To think, I used to enjoy the rock hard gum from the wax packs for the seconds the flavour would last, lol.

I also collected a lot when I was younger. Jerseys, autos, relics, sp's, inserts, vintage - you name it. My favorite endeavor was finding rookies. The joy of it all started to fade when I just got fed up, and ultimately overwhelmed, with the ridiculous amount of trash that was marketed to us. How can you have 8 different variations of the same card? (ie. */5, */25, */100, */250, red trim, blue trim, refractor, xfractor, etc.) It all felt like a manipulation of scarcity, and it detracted from the excitement a bit. Also, I used to get jacked for a good jersey or relic card; however, I slowly came to the conclusion that 95% of them were garbage. The appearance of "event worn/used" pieces in place of "game worn/used" is incredibly misleading and bullshit, quite frankly. They would have a player wear a jersey for a five minute photo op just so they could cut it up into a thousand marketable pieces. I also hated the auto'd stickers that they would slap on to an unreal amount of cards; by not having the player or individual sign the actual card you just lose a feeling of warmth and authenticity. In my opinion, there are still a lot of meaningful sets out there to collect; I just think the vast majority are shit. Would love to hear what some of your collection highlights were

Beckett pricing and the establishment of "book value" has forever damaged the hobby. Leading people to believe that their items are worth FAR beyond the actual going rate is quite shitty, especially when your name is a staple in the industry. Fuck Beckett, check ebay

dude i am 100% w/ you. the false rarity of multiple sets of the same fucking card, like you mentioned, is fucking ridiculous. it’s clearly just a way to fabricate a false sense of a “good pull” betwixt all your garbage pulls pack after pack. the jersey shit is lame as fuck too. i only have a few that show game worn authenticity, but a majority are just pristine clean “event” worn cuts. garbage. i’m less miffed about sticker autos though. sure, it’s a lazy way to slap the auto onto the cards & lacks that same feeling as on-the-card auto because the player clearly just flew through sheet after sheet, but at least it still feels more personal from player to collector.

He doesn't care about anything but getting his fav players like George kettle and like the shiny cards but it's fun watching him bust packs and get excited. Make me happy in a weird way.

Nice. It's always good to see kids getting into cards. It's hard to keep their attention with all of these electronic devices.

Too many older people doing it, gotta have the younger generation keep it going.

Yeah he surprised me cause he said him and his friend are trading cards now just like we use to do. So I pulled out some of my basketball cards and showed him which one I liked growing up. So many Tim Ducans and Vince Carters.SMH

I wished someone nudged me towards individual stocks or mutual funds instead. Takes up less space and bigger upside potential. I did enjoy looking at stats on the cards while making doo doo though.

You don't use Ultra Pro archival polypropylene sheets? Target carries them for decent price.

Back in the day, I'd put autographs and patches in a toploader. I think I have a Hank Aaron bat piece card.

I will check for those next time I go.

He puts them in team order mostly and threw he fav on the on the back page.

I never got baseball cards other than a few Nolan Ryans. He was one of my fav player along with Ozzy Smith.

I had the whole 2nd edition of Garbage Pail Kids. I should have kept it.

I had the Garbage Pail Kid dressed up as a Macross armored VF-1. No idea where it is.

The limited edition 2016 and 2020 political sets are great.

Back in the day, I tried to focus my ki to pick one pack here and there to get a Lebron RC, but ended up with Upper Deck MVP Carmelo RC. I may have only bought one pack of that.
