I'm talking about his career not the fight.
Anthony Smith just isn't a talented fighter. Yes, get mad Smith fans who have dreamed up a world where his very occasional commentary and good takes translate to him being a high level fighter. It's just not reality. The dude's picture above the dictionary definition of 'Jobber' right next to fucking Masvidal.
However unlike Masvidal who was a jobber with some flashy wins at the relatively competitive WW.
Anthony Smith was a jobber in the no-man's land of unranked MW and the joke of the current LHW division. Basically a small fish in a small pond. But there was also a very clear road to recognition where no one else was doing shit. He picks up two wins over washed, retirement-ready Rashad Evans, and the ever marching zombie of Shogun and start marketing himself as a 'legend killer'.
That was it. That's all he needed to do in the barren wasteland to get a title eliminator against the famously never-was Volkan and then go on to challenge Jones. That was the highlight of his career. Then he went on to just Job like he was doing before, but now angling himself to be commentator.
I can't even hate on the guy, he capitalized on perfect timing and is doing his very best to carve out a cushy job with his ridiculously limited skillset. Good for Smith.
