Anthony Pettis future Champion??

Cerrone, a supposed great kickboxer, couldn't out strike diaz who is notorious for poor kick defense. And cerrone got lit up. Pettis is far to accurate for some one with poor defense like cerrone to not have success standing.

Cerrone is one of guys unfortunately that lets shit fuck with his head. He dug his own grave talkin shit, then Diaz's very aggressive in you face style surprised him and he never seemed to change his strategy. He honestly thought he was just going to walk thru Diaz. I think Diaz was the tallest fighter with the longest reach that Cerrone has fought in a long time. But I still think he beats Pettis even if he does eat some punches. Again, Just my opinion.

The Scorecards were 48-47 for Pettis if I remember right.

It was a close 5th round but before the kick Pettis may not have done enough to decisively win the belt even if he landed most his shots, he still got taken down by Bendo and judges get orgasmic for takedowns, it's very feasible to say Bendo was on his way to narrow victory at least.

It was not a close 5th round and Bendo winning before the kick is not feasible. Re-watch the fight. Pettis did far more than Ben's take down and anyone with eyes this side of Cecil Peoples would have given him the round

The guy got out muscled and beat by a 145'er. He literally laid on his back with no offense, just laid there holding on for dear life hoping it was going to be stood up. Then when he does get to his feet he just tries kicking off the cage. If this guy gets in the cage with a real wrestler at 155 hes gonna be fucked.

You obviously didn't watch the fight because he was attempting submissions almost the entire time. He did more on his back then Guida did the whole fight on top.

I can't remember how long they were on the ground for do you know? Fight metric shows that Pettis out landed Henderson in strikes 52 to 5, 18 to 2 in significant strikes.

I don't remember. Still though, wouldn't you say the judges get boners for takedowns over strikes?

How many of those submissions did he pull off?

Oh. Right. He didn't.

I'm all for changing the rules to awarding points to the man on the bottom for attempting subs, but currently being on the bottom means you're losing the fight. In BJJ it's a neutral position, but it sure as hell isn't in MMA. Until that changes, all the sub attempts in the world don't mean dick.

Either way, Pettis didn't win that fight by any stretch of the imagination. Would you give the GSP/Condit fight to Condit because he was aggressive and attacking from the bottom?

Would you give the Torres mm fight to Torres because he was more active off the bottom? Yes.

He's so damn smug and way too flashy.

I think he does have the potential especially if he works on his wrestling! which im sure he is. After the Guida fight i think that was a eye opener for him and if he gets past Cerrone i'd definately like to see him fight for the belt. Bendo vs Pettis II is a fight i've been wanting to see for a long time

I certainly wouldn't have been calling for the judge's blood if they decided to give that fight to Torres. iirc he was even more active than Pettis was and if there was ever a fight that should have been scored for the guy on the bottom it was him.

But these are professionals. They know the game. They know they're losing if they get taken down, period. If they choose to go for subs instead of fighting like hell to get up, that's their choice or they simply can't because the guy on top is good enough to keep them there.

Hey lost by getting laid on and not having enough time to get the sub. Sure he lost but if you think he'll never be a champion by that fight that is fine. But he's beat wrestlers and if he fights guida again i can assure you he won't be looking for sub attempts.

i have my money on pettis, the dude is a star in the making. its a big question if he can get past bendo 2.0 though

I think he'll never be the champion because men tougher, stronger, bigger and better than Clay stand in his way. I don't have to dislike Pettis or use pejoratives about him to think this, I'm merely explaining my rationale.

I should hope that he doesn't go for subs should he ever fight Guida again or anyone like him, because he'll lose again.

Well if you're trying to be rational I don't see how you can only pick and chose which fights you want to evaluate. What about the fight immediately proceeding that fight? Where he fought and beat a guy bigger stronger and tougher than guida? And the next fight where stephens tried to employee the same exact guida strategy and pettis showed that he can wrestle and take people down. Or the latest fight where he showed why people are so scared to stand with him?

I never said he won the fight because he obviously lost but he did more. You can't argue that. Of course I wouldn't give Condit the fight and I didn't give Pettis the fight with Guida. GSP also did more than hold his opponent down like Guida, so the comparison isn't really that great.
