Guns were much more ubiquitous when I was younger. You could check student vehicles in the parking lot at school and find dozens, often in plain sight, and no one batted an eye. What's changed in recent times? I feel like people have lost the ability to lose with grace. From an actual fist fight, to losing out on a promotion at work, to some guy banging your wife, every perceived wrong must be "made right" by eliminating those deemed responsible. The possible motivations of the guy in this story still haven't been made clear, but it's likely that he feels he's the victim of some injustice, just like everyone seems to these days.

The irony being that a world full of pussies is ultimately a more violent one.

I mean I can only see two solutions. We invest more into taking care of the mental health crisis in the country or we tighten gun laws. Two of which, the right has no interest in exploring.....

Kids used to take guns to school for shooting club and there weren't any school shootings back then atleast to the rate that we have now....I do think rolling restrictions could reduce the amount and I am not opposed to it. But I don't think thats the only path to solving the problem.

This, plus social media which often hardens people's world view.

When people run up against conflict or road blocks they lack the emotional intelligence to either change their views, admit they are wrong, or adapt.

This brittleness or lack of bend in their psychology is dangerous as you can have this fracturing at this point.

People then go to areas which are target rich or either has targets which are a source of some of their grievances. Schools/workplaces are over represented.


I think also Americans are raised on the concept of American exceptionalism, constitutional rights, the customer is always right etc. This individualism can be beneficial, but it can be unhealthy if the individual considers themselves apart from society and above others.

This also I think contributes to the sort of modern day Karen-copolyspe that seems to occur mostly in the US with individual entitlement.

Australia 2022 total of 2 mass shootings vs 390 in 6 months in the US in 2024.

UK total of 1 mass shooting vs 370 up to now in the US.

Correction UK 1 is the total since 1997

Some of those mass shootings happened in schools were in very red states aince 2022. One of these states had officers waiting outside the school for 20 mins while the shooter was walking the building.
