Problem with Ankalaev is that, well not a problem for him since winning, but thing is

he's good everywhere. He has power, he is technical, but he's not flashy. He doesn't force anything. He is basically sound offensively AND defensively.

He is also a great wrestler, so he's really good everywhere. But he's also at the same time, not a submission threat. He can wrestle defensively and offensively.

I think he's very content on winning by decision, so it's more like if finish happens it happens. I mean nothing wrong with that.

Nothing wrong with that, but overall, he's a boring but good fighter.

For instance, on paper, i felt like ankalaev should be much more favored against pereira, if you take names off those two fighters. However, because Alex was on such a special run, and a special fighter, you just couldn't put it past him to win against a better opponent. I kept saying things like Ank is a better fighter, but Alex is a special fighter.

I have no doubt that UFC was praying to seven heavens that Alex wins this fight.

Oh I think just for understanding purposes, I think Ankalaev is like Valiev if he had a size and length and a better striking and not as active in fights lol.

But I find Valiev more exciting, because his grappling has purpose. Ank is just straight up gnp and hold and his striking while good, it's not like fancy one either.

All in all, all I gotta say at this point is good luck to LHW going forward lol

Jiri might be the only one who can save us in a near future lol but Ank probably beats him too..

This is a very honest post with a lot of elements I can agree with. It’s well justified and a breath of fresh air with all the Dage haters. Good post.

lol yeah the Dage hate is wierd eh? I can't say I'm a fan of Ankalaev tho haha I just like to watch best against the best, not fabricated shit like Sean O'Malleys and all that.

And I know that Ankalaev isn't 20-1 at LHW for no reason. But unfortunately, I think a lot of people couldn't and still can't see that.
 
Actually there was a thread about Jones vs Ankhalaev, and I thought about posting there but figured I'd get quoted to get death.

I think Ank has everything that you need to beat prime Jones. Length, size, wrestling, striking and a south paw. I mean you can't pick him necessarily over Jones because Jones is most talented fighter ever, but late-career Jon Jones? I'd pick Ank over him because I still think he hasn't looked good for years and there's no such thing as a second prime.

Hell, I think Ank right now at LHW would be tougher fight for Jones than Aspinall at HW because Ank wrestling is proven like Reye's is, but Aspinall's TDD isn't like Gane's.

Machida is one of those fighters that really won't come too often, glad to have been able to follow it real time how it progressed and played out.

The best Karate fighter of all time imo.
