New tower of god is out, weird chapter, not sure I get everything and tge cliffhanger is killing me.

My favorite ever, in no particular order:

1. Akira
2. Cowboy Bebop
3. Sword of the Stranger
4. Princess Monenoke
5. Ninja Scroll
6. Berserk: Golden Age
7. Ghost in the Shell

Good list. Do the Hellsing Ovas count in your rankings? Would it be Top 20 for you?

I think those OVAs are so badass. Animation, voice acting, and pace were all on point.

Can't be better than redline

Is it just cool animation or a complete package?

Redline has amazing animation and a good OST, but the story is really forgettable.

It was never meant to be a great story and everyone expected that going in. Only anime movie since the early 2000s that I watched 2 nights in a row

I'm not going to go out and act like the story was great. However the film is flipping amazing

Love the music and my favorite animation in any anime film

this is basically my view on it

I’m not usually into racing movies or car movies, but Redline…that thing’s crazy.

So it’s got a paper-thin plot and the characters are pretty two-dimensional (literally and otherwise), but you don’t watch a movie like Redline for the plot. That’d be like going into Transformers and expecting something by Hitchcock. No. Redline is a pure, unadulterated adrenaline rush. It’s eye candy. It’s over-the-top ridiculousness of the highest caliber.

The races are thrilling and unlike anything I’d ever seen before. It’s like the creators played too much Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8 growing up and they used that to their advantage. It’s Speed Racer on X.

Also, the animation just happens to be plain beautiful. Clean, crisp, colorful and a sense of speed. The designs – everything from the characters to the cars to the locations – are all unique.

I really want this to be a video game. I mean, that last race, the actual “Redline” the movie is named for, is the most insane race I’ve ever seen. I want to be in that race.

If you’re thinking about watching Redline, just watch it already. Don’t expect much plot-wise, but be ready for a fun ride.

I agree. I thought it was real fun to watch, but I couldn't place it in my favorite movies list.

I'm back and have caught up on all the posts so far. As far as recommendations go, I'd still go with Detective Conan for you Heavy especially since you mentioned an interest in detective fiction because of a Holmes show you saw and I'm REALLY interested in that Harlock film especially since I'm quite familiar with the series and have meant to watch it one of these days. Anyway sorry if I haven't posted much and this post is also mostly to be able to find this thread easily and I'm still very giddy and riding a high from the Bigfoot KO'ing Reem thing and the Ravens winning the Super Bowl and am quite "buzzed".

Yeah I'm going to give it conan a go eventually this just wasn't the week end been pretty busy. I am also looking forward to Harlock for the next generation Space Pirates how can you go wrong with that. Overeem got what was coming to him by underestimating Big Foot, though I could have done without Silva standing over Overeem in that way, good superbowl, was admittedly pulling more for the 49ers but not terribly hurt to see the Ravens win , I'm glad Ed Reed finally got his ring , could care less about Lewis, great player but he overdoes it sometimes

Nice list , though I would put Akira lower on my list of favorites

1. Sword of The Strangerh
2. Spirited Away
3. One Piece Strong World
4. Ghost in the Shell
5. Princess Mononoke
6. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
7. Akira

You mean you wouldn't walk through and AIDS fire for him and he wouldn't be able to convince you to punch your mom? Got those from another site I visit and I'm STILL laughing at it.:icon_lol: Being from the East Coast I felt a sort of obligation to root for them and I was glad to see Reem get what was coming for always being so smug even in light of his failed test and all of the smack talk he did, but none of this is here nor there.

Eh I'm not a fan of the city of Baltimore but I like that one of the best safeties in our generation finally gets a ring, its the icing on the cake for Reed , national championship with the 01 canes and now a Superbowl. Agree on Reem though I wanted to see a superfight with Cain and Reem we would have gotten raped if didn't get an early knockout.

Also Favorite anime in no particular order are Yu Yu Hakusho, Outlaw Star, Tenchi, One Piece, DBZ, Cyborg 009, Cowboy Bebop, G Gundam, Gundam Wing, and my brain is drawing a blank even though this list should be way longer, but I'm just too tired and spent to think anymore. As for movies, most stuff from Studio Ghilbi, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars, Strong World, Hells Angel, and again more stuff I'm drawing blanks on.

6 shows from before, and the 5 Winter shows.

think im goin through some sort of slump. cant watch any anime right now. and when i do watch anime its something ive watched before

cyborg 009 is a good one. curious as to why its one of your favorites

i never do well writing what i like on the spot, the list is always shorter than what it should be

New tower of god is out, weird chapter, not sure I get everything and tge cliffhanger is killing me.

This is how I see it:

Everything in the last few chapters has been a play by FUG to tighten down their control of Baam by eliminating his attachment to other groups. To do that they set up a trap for both Agero and Horyang. To execute the trap FUG set up three agents:
Apple - to manipulate Koon's group
Cassano - to manipulate Horyang
Rabbit Ears girl - to send everybody to the boobytrapped area

The successful execution of the trap would result in the death of Koon and Horyang while forcing Baam to follow FUG's agents. So far, it's been working out largely as planned.

I've had to resort to hitting the "surprise me" button to try and find new stuff so this is a pretty eclectic group. There's also a ton of reviews this time, but most of these series have a dozen or fewer chapters available so it's not like I've been reading any more than usual.

One thing I noticed while going through all the random series was that there is a shitload of shoujo out there. And it all seems to use the same ugly-ass art style. What's up? Can Japanese women not draw? That might not be completely fair, but it seems like the level of technical ability is, on average, a lot higher in the shonen and senien segments of the market.

Ability - Ongoing - [C] - There was nothing really compelling about this supernatural/superpower webtoon. The character artwork was passable, but the backgrounds use the same sort of 3D models as Noblesse which I think are ugly as hell. The plot is also pretty derivative.
Accord - Ongoing - [C?] - I'm really not sure how I feel about this series. Overall it was nothing special, yet I still found myself reading.
Attack!! - Ongoing - [B+] - This series about vollyball wasn't too bad. It shares a lot of your typical sports genre tropes, but I found it to be pretty funny and engaging despite the general predictability.
Black Behemoth - Ongoing - [C] - The artwork in this webtoon uses a very interesting style that I liked, but the writing was really weak. It just wasn't compelling.
Black Magic - Ongoing - [C-] - Another series by Masamune Shirow. This is just pure 80's. It shows off more of Shirow's weak character drawings, but unlike GitS or Appleseed the mechanical design is also pretty weak. The storytelling also relies on too much exposition.
Dethrone - Ongoing - [B?] - A martial arts competition between female students where the winner takes the loser's supernatural energy Highlander-style. Except instead of cutting off heads they have to fondle the other girls boobs... Yeah, nobody accused this series of being high level literature. Despite the perverted premise the fight scenes that we've seen (only a couple chapters are out so far) are actually really well choreographed. If the fights remain good I'll probably be able to overlook the echhi gimmick.
Dimension W - Ongoing - [A-] - This is a sci-fi series about a future where a new energy source is developed that allows items to be powered wirelessly off a global grid. The artwork is good and I'm interested in seeing how the plot and characters progress.
Giant Robo - The Day the Earth Burned - Ongoing - [F] - This just wasn't for me. I'm just not familiar enough with the Giant Robo franchise and the art style isn't one that I care fore.
Guns and Stamps - Ongoing - [C] - I'm not really a fan of dieselpunk, and the cutsey comedy with a war backdrop just doesn't really appeal to me. The artwork, despite me not liking the style, is still well done.
Jiraishin - Ongoing - [F] - I'm not a big fan of police procedurals to start with, and I didn't find the art or characters of this series to be at all compelling. Meh.
Jiya - Complete - [B+] - This is a short story (three chapters) collaboration between Akira Toriyama (DBZ) and Masakazu Katsura (Zetman). I find most short stories in manga to not be very good, but this one wasn't bad. It's got good action, some comedy, and an overall enjoyable feel to it. But, like most short stories, it simply isn't long enough to develop into something great.
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Ongoing - [C+] - This series is about a school for techno-magic users. The artwork is certainly well rendered, but everything else is just flat. The main character lacks any real personality and the incestuous overtones between him and his sister are just weird. The series also uses too much heavy-handed exposition; characters will explain things to other characters even though its the type of thing they should already know.
Orphen - Ongoing - [F] - I'm not sure if the translations I was reading were bad, or if the style of this story just doesn't translate well to english. But whatever the reason this series just didn't read smoothly to the point that I didn't feel like reading on.
Otokonoko wa Maid Fuku ga Osuki!? - Ongoing - [F] - Why did I even bother with reading a chapter of this crap?! I knew from the synopsis what it was about, but that part of you that rubbernecks at an accident took over and I had to see if it was as bad as it sounded. Yup: pretty bad.
Psycho Staff - Complete - [B+] - This one volume series is by the author of The Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer. The author has a knack for making likable characters and combining humor/drama/romance. Overall I liked it, but there isn't enough content to put it on the same level as Biscuit Hammer.
The Red Soul - Complete - [C+] - Just when I thought this series was about to get rolling...it ends. The artwork is good and has a distinctly korean flavor to it. I liked the setting and the plot setup was interesting. But man, that sudden ending just ruined it for me.

Hey JBS new Dorohedoro chapter!!

Thanks for the heads-up, but I think I'll wait until the full volume is out.

Hmm I didn't know a collaboration like Jiya existed

Dorohedoro has a new team doing releases, they're supposed to be doing the chapter by chapter releases with permission from the team that does the whole volume releases.

Haven't seen it in a LOOOONG time, but I really enjoyed the story and characters and yeah I can relate to that slump of yours.

Chunin exam arc I really think was the highlight of the Naruto series. OR the race to find Sasgay.

Yeah I thought the ending of the Chunin Exams with the 3rd's death was the best part of the Manga in hindsight
