I'm still trudging through random stuff in hopes of finding something good.
Abandon the Old in Tokyo - Complete - [F?] - This is a collection by an influential author. But I guess I just don't get it. Without the context, these are just uninteresting short stories with really dated artwork.
Blaster Knuckle - Ongoing - [C] - This is sort of like Berserk, if Guts was a black man living in the post civil-war south. The artwork isn't bad, but I didn't feel a connection to any of the characters. The plot is also a pretty generic revenge-against-monsters story.
Buddha - Complete - [F] - I know nothing about budhism, so I can't speak to how accurate any of these stories are. But I just couldn't read this due to the artwork. It uses that heavily caricatured style from the 60s-70s and I just can't stand it.
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia - Ongoing - [C] - I'm not a big fan of this type of horror/supernatural in the first place, but ended up reading more chapters than I originally expected I would. I stopped reading because I got the distinct impression that the mystery element of the story was just going to get dragged on.
Fourteen - Ongoing - [F] - Oh god. I can't stop laughing at how bad this was. Everything from the artwork to the storyline. I just hope to hell the author wasn't trying to write a legit horror story because this is just comical.
GoGo Monster - Complete - [F] - I feel sort of guilty giving this rating, but I just can't stand the artwork by this author. I sort of got used to it in his series Ping Pong, but here it is even more jarring.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - Complete - [C+] - I read a couple volumes of this but it just didn't hold my interest. Miyazaki is just a better film-maker than he is manga author. The drawings lack the flow and movement of his animation.
Ore Monogatari!! - Ongoing - [C] - Another series that is up for an award that I don't understand. The art isn't very good and the story isn't all that original either. Really just "meh" overall.
