Anderson Silva Second To None

Absolute legendary fighter who fought in multiple high level orgs and turned into one of the most dominating strikers MMA has ever seen. Fought across three weight classes. Mentally strong, high fight IQ. Some of the best reflexes and footwork ever seen in the sport. An absolute savage HL reel of KO victories. What's not to love?

We were lucky as hell to get to see prime Anderson, GSP, and Penn all in the ufc at the same time. Man, what a time to be alive.
The Golden Years for sure. I cant put my finger on it but it just feels different nowadays. Idk if im just jaded, or if UFC is lacking something. Either way, its just not the same..... For me at least

Combination of factors I think. We're all getting older now so there's the nostalgia factor. But also after the golden era we never saw a bunch of dominant champs across multiple weight classes like that ever again. And there's being a fan of the product during a boom period with rapid growth, compared to now where the market is more saturated and the product feels more stagnant.

My man. I couldn't of said it any better. I'm actually surprised most of the responses were positive, i expected a lot more flaming and shit talk. Glad to see most of us respect Anderson and realize how special he was. Good shit gentleman.

I feel like I used to know every fighter. And was invested in them, actually cared, you know? I bought every single ppv, happily. (Side note, remember when they were 40 bucks? ) Anyway, I would be so hyped for every event. Invite all my friends, give them all backstories about the fighters.
I still have guys that I like to watch, but if they win or lose my emotional attachment isn't there.
Not that I don't respect their abilities, but now it seems like just a bunch of random guys from the caucuses, with unpronounceable names. And it has nothing to do
With them being foreign or whatever, a lot of my favorite fighters didn't even speak English, but i loved them just the same. Every event felt special.
You might be right about this saturation, i miss events all the time now. That was unheard of. I would be legit sad if i missed anything. Now Sometimes I don't even know they're on.
I miss being a TUF noob.

When we talk about athletes in mma its always some no neck wrestler and everyone jizzes there pants. Anderson is a real athlete and could have played pro sports if he had tried to. He is a little tall for soccer but that dude would have been fine running pick and roll for the Brazilian team. He was an amazing athlete

Not to mention he legit was a master at every style. Capoeira, Muay thai, boxing, jiu jitsu. Literally everything except wrestling. And you can tell he respected them, treated it like knowledge that he wanted to absorb, and keep learning. Real Bruce Lee type shit. A true martial artist.

I remember when the playstation portable came out, I used to joke, that Anderson could probably play games on that thing, and win a pro fight at the same time. That's how easy he made it look sometimes.

Did he even get a send-off by the UFC? I don't recall it. If not fuck these clowns, again.
Well he obviously didnt retire, so it may have been similar to the situation with Arlovski and others, that they did not want a sendoff.

Almost like that tyson factor. He had guys beat before he even entered the ring. That's that aura that people mentioned in this thread. It was incredible. I don't blame guys.I could feel it at home on my couch.

He was a master of deception. Weidman was beating his ass, and he legit conned his way back into the fight with his body language.

Even later on he had guys spooked, Def made Adesanya unsure about what ol gramps still had.

That makes sense. But is he even in the hall of fame? I don't remember a tribute a video anything. He doesn't even come to the events. Find that kind of weird.

Anderson "The Spider" Silva was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Class of 2023 as a pioneer, honoring his legendary career, 16-fight winning streak, and record-setting 2,457-day title reign. Widely considered one of the greatest MMA fighters ever, he was inducted during the 11th Annual International Fight Week in Las Vegas in July 2023.

As fr as him not going to events, he may not want to. Not everyone wants to be around like that. Anderson's lack of speaking english kinda kept him mysterious too, and maybe he enjoys keeping the cards close to his chest.

Thank you didn't know that. But they didn't give him a tribute video like porier or aldo, right? They definitely didn't make a big deal out of it, or even a small one. And 2023 seems way late, no?

2 years is a long time when you're in your late thirties.
And especially when your style relies on speed and precision.
So ignoring the fights after then right?
Diaz, DC, Bisping. That was over 3 years and after recovering from a catostrophic leg break. Pretty sure his first fight with Chris wasn't some magical point where he was far too slow and far too old.

Chris had his number.

I stand corrected. thank you. Last question. Sorry... Did they do it at an event? And I just missed it? Like played it for him while he was in attendance?
They played it at an event but I dont think he was there.
