Media Anderson Silva or MVP…. Who has better striking?

Anderson did what he did to some of the best fighters in the world. MVP has never fought a guy that could be considered as such.

Neither.
As told by Silva himself, prime Machida would always outstrike him.

Huh? Did you even watch those fights? Anderson Silva dominated Leites & Cote in S class performances, literally dominated, pushing forward, doing anything at will,he was dictating those fights. Maia was the only fight where he clowned around and didn’t engage & acted a fool.

Go watch the Leites fight again and tell me Anderson Silva isnt the best striker in MMA, just because it didn’t end in a KO/TKO. I guarantee Jon Jones mimicked a lot of his striking style based of of thst bout.
Yes, I watched those fights. The majority of fans were upset at his performances in all three of them.

Anderson Silva wasnt well liked by America fans, up until the Sonnen fight and Vitor fight, the cheers for his win were minimal when he choked Dan Henderson. Offcourse fans were upset, a fighter they already disliked for besting their American sweethearts, went to a decision, in what they perceived as boring. Im not going to try and change your opinion on Anderson, but those fights vs Leites & Cote, striking, which is what this thread is about, Anderson Silva in those bouts alone showed why he was the best striker at the time even to this day, the only other person technical enough to rival Anderson is not MVP, its Israel Adesanya.

The way MVP just tooled on Cannoniner got me thinking he’s the most difficult guy to deal with on the feet.

Who’s better in a stand up war, Anderson Silva or MVP?

silva is no doubt much more rounded, but I think even Silva has trouble with MVP striking.

Cannonier couldn’t touch MVP on the feet and Cannonier at least didn’t look silly in front of Izzy.

When he caved in Cyborg's skull, the closest we've come to a death in a major organization since Overeem put Fujita in a coma.
That's true, but that was a really long time ago, and not really indicitive of finishing ability. Also, Cyborg was a can at that point.

I'd go silva

Muay Thai kicks and knees, but with a Tae Kwon doe background, so he had a different sort of movement compared with the typical plodding, flat footed muay Thai guys.

Decent boxing, good head movement and counters striking. Strong reads, reactions and a few flashy moves.

It's kind of apples and oranges though, they're just vastly different styles. MVP embodies the traditional martial arts style and philosophy more so, but silva is a more diverse/ multi dimensional striker with a deeper set of tools.

MVP would still be a tricky guy to fight though. He's spent so much time playing that point fighting sort of game found in traditional martial arts. Almost anyone is gonna have a hard time actually hitting him, he's long too and covers that in and out distance so well.

lol that's not why fans were upset with him. The GOAT talks were in full swing, with Fedor fighting with pure aggression, never taking a step backwards, and GSP consistently improving beyond whatever level he reached. Meanwhile, Anderson was fucking around in the ring, with no regard to what fight fans wanted, to the point that people wondered if he was trying to get fired by the UFC, to the point Dana publically apologized for his performances.

jfc talk about revisionist history.

In sparring it was probably contested although they both fought Dan Henderson not removed from their primes and we saw the difference....
The Dragon is an absolute legend though

Why were they upset again? Refresh my memory, you seem to remember and please give me some details other than, “he didn’t engage”, because I seem to remember well he engaged vs Cote and Leites, and performed S class STRIKING clinic, which is what we’re talking about, right?

Huh when was this, Anderson didnt get started being called GOAT of MMA post Sonnen, yes there was convos when he beat Forrest but not full swing until post Sonnen, Belfort and Okami fights. GSP from Alves bout to Nick Diaz bout was when GOAT started coming in, thats when GSP vs Silva was heavily proposed, somewhere around 2010-2011.at that time a Fedor was getting wrecked in B leagues.

One fight, Maia, thats the fight Dana apologized for.

What revionist, you claimed Anderson was the most hated fighter, and he was boring for a while, all,the things you’re tasking about fucking around in the cage, Dana apologizing all occurred in one bout, the Maia bout.

At least since he destroyed Henderson, Silva was widely regarded as p4p best

Think about how bad and big fan reaction would have to be for Dana to apologize and promise to make it up to the fans. He's never done that for another fighter, that's how hated Anderson was.

At this point in his career, he beat Rich Franklin twice, Marquardt, Dan Henderson and had won a fight at LHW. People were most definitely having GOAT conversations and comparing him to Fedor and GSP... and then he deliberately shit the bed three times. You might not think so, but fans at the time sure did.

Does P4P mean GOAT? Offcourse Silva was p4p at the time, he was winning against great competition. But GOAT wasnt strongly proposed till the Sonnen bout.

Ah thats right

Anderson Silva by far, MVP hasn't done anything special thus far in the UFC imo.

He's all flash, but no substance.

What fans critiziced from those fights is basically what they critiziced for the whole championship run of GSP: to take a conservative route to a dominant decision.
Silva did it for a couple of fights, in GSP was the norm.

Now that you reference Dana btw, he always rated Silva above GSP even despite Georges sold him many more PPVs

MVP is good at what he does, the shifty movement with swift kicks and counter punches.

Silva is so diverse and dynamic he can do the same but much better boxing, better pure muay thai, plenty of flashy kicks, knees, elbows, in the clinch or firmly planted feet, high flying etc. I could go on. There is no one like him.
