I can see why. After getting back from Scandinavia, I was amazed how everyone i came across spoke perfect English in every country.

There's an episode of Brooklyn 99 where a pair of Swedish detectives arrive to work on an international jewel theft case. They speak perfect English, and tell their US colleagues they also speak French, German and Italian,

"But not Danish. Because that is a garbage language for garbage people!"

Some years ago I met a researcher / professor from US who lived in Stockholm.
After 20 years in Sweden he did not speak a word of Swedish.
