Yes, i think his education led him to places where he met and was cultivated by a more seriously ideological group and the conclusions of this National Security Strategy are what i suspect this group believes about the future of America.

Trump is no ideologue. I don't think he believes in anything except his own image, money and some of his family. All else is negotiable, and is seen as a possible "deal". this type of mindset doesn't allow the development of ideologies.

The Munich speech did it for me. What Vance said there went deeper than trump's "europe should do more", which ultimately means hey guys just buy more of our stuff, which again is a transaction. Vance went deeper - in order for us to be allies YOU will need to be more ideologically similar to OUR America, and he went on to give examples of what he saw as bad things the euros are doing, from censorship in germany to cancelling elections where the winner wasn't pro-european, etc.

these things didn't come from nowhere, they came from a belief system that is a lot more solid than trump's "just buy our stuff". and the fact that the Strategy outright comes and says "we will actively do stuff in europe to support our peers and fight the ones we don't like" sent shivers around the political spectrum around here, i can assure you.

If Vance becomes president, he'll be a lot harder to negotiate with than trump. trump will just sent 50 tweets a day saying we suck, vance will send one and then there will be silence. he's a shitload more scarier for europe than trump. and he has the real backing of real money, he's well spoken, very smart, and he can talk freely for half and hour about his plans because he doesn't need to read them off a prompter, because he believes in them truly. i kinda like the guy, cause he's smart and smart politicians are rare, but as somebody from europe, i'm a bit apprehensive about what his presidency might mean for us, if he wins, because i sense an undercurrent of hostility bordering on cruelty from a considerable number of americans towards us.

We've been paying the European defense bill for decades, allowing them social programs that they could not afford if they paid for their own defense.

We exceed natos defense spending target and are prepared to increase it.
The last many times Danish soldiers have been in war it has been to fight for the us. Even being one of the only countries willing to send soldiers to Helmand resulting in Denmark at one point having the most dead soldiers pr capita of any allied country in Afghanistan. The us being the only country to invoke article 5 and being one of the biggest warmongers post ww2. Its not exactly been the us defending Europe

By comparison when you look at the us economy and debt they are the welfare queen spending food stamps on lobster and iPhones.
