All Things Space

Doubt India will succed in this journey, they havent even sent a man into space yet with their own vessel.

Voyager's head scientist is on Colbert right now

Red makes me chuckle. An old roommate of mine was saying how she thought we should start looking at other galaxies for life, because we cant find any here.

/facepalm

we are not certain how many planets are in our own solar system , that is a fact.

Did you read the article about planet Tyche? if it exists... it is in our solar system and would be large enough to be considered a planet

That's my point :P

We don't even know our back yard, much less our galaxy, and she want's to look toward other galaxies because she thinks we have exhausted ours.

space is no big deal, just the distance from A to B.

Now TIME on the other hand, that shit will warp your mind. We have a real rudimentary understanding of time at this point. We know that traveling at light speed will make u age slower than mufuckers sittin still, but that's just the tip of the iceberg.

WTF is time all about? What IS that shit?

There is no working understanding of Time , really

There is the common understanding of what time is in the everyday sense , which is essentially a measure of Earth's relative position to that of the Sun.

What time is it?

1 AM , therefore the Sun isn't up

Or we could say...

It's wintertime , therefore put on a coat because we are tilted away from the Sun.

But in the absence of a Sun or an Earth , the persistent idea is that Time should still exist. But how would you measure time then, by counting? watching numbers go by on a digital clock and using that to gauge how long it will take you to accomplish something like travel from X to Y...

The best definition of time I've heard is this.

It's natures way of making sure everything doesn't happen all at once.

But that's just a linear interpretation of time. Imo everything DOES happen at once, but our perception prohibites us from experiencing it in that way. and yes the past CAN be revisited. But with our current, dopey understanding of the concept time, it's near impossible to grasp the reality that we're actually a part of.

You should post a few moons or something. Maybe a galaxy cluster too.

Two moons of Mars by the Curiosity rover.

A linear interpretation of time is the common everyday understanding. I am not saying it is satisfactory , we know it isn't . But it is this understanding of time the we operate under every day. There is a past , we are in the present and we are moving toward the future . This is the linear interpretation of time and it moves from left to right with the present as the zero point.

And it is wrong . There is no future, but you can argue that there is a past I suppose.

And if time does FLOW it is not toward a future , the future doesn't exist as I see it.

There is only the present , and we create the past with our actions in the present. But we don't create a future.

Time flows backwards from the present into the past.

There is no present, only the immediate past and future. The present cannot exist without either of these conditions. It's weird, I know.

That is weird , cant quite grasp that one. Trying though...

I guess by definition the present can only exist if there is a past and future to measure it against.

But still that leaves the future as an Idea , the present as an objective absolute and the past as something at least more substantial than the pure fiction realm that is future.

My judgement stands.

There is the present and it flows into the past , but there is no future.

I always thought the Ultra Deep Field was fascinating.

can't get into reddit, it's such a poorly designed site. hard on the eyes and difficult to navigate

I keep hearing that but I don't see it. It's not that hard to follow. Try mobile version, Alien Blue is what I use.

More Ultra Deep Field goodness.

why is space so cold?
