You bring up the Stipe-DC fight...yet of the two, DC was the one fighting in a manner almost guaranteed to produce an eyepoke and was warned about it. It's a similar situation to what the TS is pointing out : if the eyepoke happens because of a direct open handed thrusting strike like that, a move where the chance of an eyepoke is far, far greater than other moves, it's more egregious even if it's accidental. It's like a DUI crash — the intoxicated person didn't mean to crash, but he willfully engaged in behavior that greatly increased its likelihood, and is therefore punished more harshly.
i dunno man stipe looked pretty committed to that eyepoke to me. by which i mean its not like he did it accidentally while drunk, its more like he was stone cold sober and had been training for months to do it. great execution
sorry i just watched it again, i think he was actually attempting an open palm strike to the eye, and it was just a bit sloppy
