I'm pretty sure they've had episodes with hoaxes like this and they were made years ago, long before the Smollet case.

Yes, but an investigation was opened into the State's Attorney's forced dropping of the case after recusing herself from it due to conflict of interest.

So now it is much more so about Chicago corruption and legal favors for the connected, and if anything will get done about that.

Of course, when police release more information to the public (which the State's Attorney even tried to have sealed but a judge ruled it had to be released like any other evidence from a dropped investigation per public records law), there comes some jokes at Smollett as he again looks like a fool, or asshat as you say.

Public pretense - a single isolated claim of a hate crime wasn’t worthy of a War Room discussion. Of course, that was transparent bullshit that every last person here could see through (as if any hate crime is unworthy of a political discussion, to say nothing of one perpetuated on a celebrity by MAGA hat wearing rednecks screaming that downtown Chicago is Trump country. It was and apparently remains a cringeworthy lie.)

Which brings us to the real reason - the mod in question, like the rest of us, could spot the hoax from day one, didn’t like the optics and desperately wanted the story to just disappear.

Which is something the administrators of this site should seriously think about. I remember @Peteyandjia once calling himself an “unpaid internet janitor”. As unglamorous as that sounds, it’s an honorable assessment of his role on the site. Some of these mods don’t seem to share his sentiment and, instead, want to exert control over the discussion.
