The involvement of prominent politicians, LEO, and prosecutors is what has given it a magical depth, along with the intersection with hate crimes law, race, class, privilege, etc. ‘Move along, nothing to see’ is hardly a serious criticism in that respect, as is the attempt to pretend this story was only driven by right-wing outrage—As if it wasn’t rammed down everybody’s throats by left wing pols and media at the start, and *then* evolved into this beautiful monstrosity.

I think you mean prosecutorial corruption, connected with outrage legal reform campaigns by high level politicians, which is much more rare and wondrous than banal police corruption.
