Crime All charges dropped against Jussie Smollett

We're told the State's Attorney, Kim Foxx, told Chicago police she was dropping the case because Jussie would have only gotten community service if convicted and she said he has already performed community service so there is no point in prosecuting him. We could not find any record of Smollett doing community service.

Does this same logic apply to people who have already done jail-time?

I'm glad CPD and Mayor are making it clear they think this is BS. Good for them!

I think the major problem is public image. This is hardly more corrupt than is the norm for Chicago law enforcement, but it’s got so much publicity that it’s making the city look ridiculous, which causes reputation loss. Make the city synonymous with corruption in such a visible national way, it’s not surprising the mayor is pissed. If there was no press, on the other hand, he wouldn’t care at all.

Looks like Smollett gambled that his political friends would protect him and that paid off too. It's pretty clear they bent over backwards to get him to sign a plea and simply acknowledge what he did so they could move past it. Apparently he was afraid that would end his career and refused to do it, so in the end the evidence was too much to exonerate him, so he had to forfeit the bond and they had to acknowledge he was guilty, but somehow came up with this bizarre idea that past community service and volunteer work had made a trial unnecessary. Which is so pathetic.

I honestly believe that this too much for a simple favor. To pull this off, his lawyers must have threatened to name an important person or people as having put him up to it.

"Is there no decency in this man?" Mayor Emanuel

He really ripped him good, I wonder how much attention this will get.

Told you guys he wouldn't get charged.

There is no way he would go to prison

Rich privilege strikes again. When will Americans finally realize that getting convicted with a crime has absolutely nothing to do with your skin color and everything to do with how much money you can pour into hiring top shelf lawyers and pulling political stings?

Oh wait, if Americans figured that out there would actually be a shot at reform. Those corporate cronies better keep turning average and poor folk against each other.

Its nothing just like I said before the tongue lashing the Police chief gave was for show, when I heard him lambast Jussie to the public I knew Jussie wasn't going to prison or get charged.

They use that as a front just like with the Mayor scolding him its good for show, they dont want him to go to prison he is one of their own.

they use that to satisfy the masses who are upset but they were never going to charge him or put him in prison thats what the public verbal lashing was for, the moment I saw the police rip him hard I knew he wasnt going to pay for his lies.

A couple politicians were able to pull strings for him.

Its hard for us to figure that out when we have story after story driving a wedge between people via race issues. Sorta like this.

I LOVE that the chief of police is a black man so that the fucking race victim card cant be played by the left through all of this.

Hold your horses. FBI is investigating mail fraud charges. Jussie's not in the clear yet.

Considering that Kim Foxx, and her political connections, wanted to direct the investigation over to the feds, you can pretty much expect that nothing's coming.

That case is likely in "good hands" and won't amount to shit.

Sometimes they will drop meritorious cases because the police acted so badly. Since the PD seems furious here, that’s very unlikely. It’s possible that the prosecutors did something wrong, and don’t want it exposed, so they worked out this shady deal with the defendant. I doubt it would be blackmail against somebody not involved in the prosecution though.

This.

If Jussie really is innocent, then they'll find nothing. If Foxx is pulling strings (and she certainly could, she's friends with Harris and M.Obama), then there is nothing that can be done. You are not going to find anything if a Senator and the former Presidential family don't want you to.

You think Hollyweird is going to let him be ruined? They may cool off for a few months, then they will be making him a hero.

Not so sure about that. Let's see in a year or so.

I think that he'll have to go the Love and Hip Hop (a show that ironically has nothing to do with love OR hip hop) reality show route, where all they care about is shocking viewers. His acting career will be ruined though. Too polarizing of a character now and too risky for a show or movie to take a risk on, IMO. We'll see though.

He'll most likely get a slap on the butt. I'm certain the power brokers in Hollywood helped him.

Not involved or rather named at this stage is the point I'm making. If this went to trial and he was facing serious felony charges, which he is obviously guilty of, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that he could threaten to name some important people that might have put him to it. Like I said, Harris's divisive anti-lynching bill being passed due to this hoax is the first thing that comes to mind. To do something like this, I don't think it could simply be due to a favor for the family. I don't think Foxx would damage her career so badly for that, it has to be something bigger that might get exposed in a trial. Or at least the accusation that others put him to it could be be used as leverage by his lawyers.

If he went to trial and said he did this to help Kamala Harris and people see that her anti-lynching bill passed due to this hoax and her past involvement with Smollett and Foxx, I don't see her winning the Dem nomination, much less the election. It would be a huge issue in the future, proven or not.
