I love this show, but the idea that it’s a prequel just doesn’t make any sense.

They wouldn’t have bothered to land an expensive mining ship to check the aliens out in the first film if the aliens smashed into an apartment…

If works perfectly as a sequel to the first or second film, but absolutely makes no sense as a prequel…
The orders from the company in the first movie were, capture specimen. Crew expendable. Ripley found evidence Ash knew all along and was following company orders to break quarantine and let them in with it once they knew what it was, and she saw his orders and confronted him about it. Which is when he tried to kill her. During his death conversation he describes it as a perfect organism, unkillable by the crew and he had prior knowledge of it before they even captured it

Once they knew it was there, they wanted it.

Makes perfect sense. Its a bioweapon to them.

The likelihood is everyone in this show dies and that island gets nuked before it's over anyways

Olay this might be the best production value, Directed, written, visual, world building series I have seen . So far its FLAWLESS and Im not even a big Alien fan..

Honestly this series doesnt even need the Xenemorph to be good its a great story. This is better so far thsn last years Shogun.

I think they're also going to ne necessary to be a "cover story" for the xeno. One of the biggest complaints has always been "No xenomorphs have ever been on Earth", which I've always found to be a a big assumption and theres a million ways you can get around certain characters in the movies not knowing they had ever been on Earth.

But now the story is gonna be all these specimens got out and caused the carnage, and only a few select people will even be aware tbat the Xenomorph was even there.
possible scenarios
1. We already know the aliens won't get out of hand on Earth because they weren't mentioned in the other movies. So now we already know that the eggs mean nothing and even if there is a queen present she won't do much.

2. the Aliens do get out of hand and we actually spent the movies being completely oblivious because our characters were not actually commuicating with Earth and were under a no need no tell command. In Alien 4 when they return to Earth it is already wastelanded. If this series sets a plot twist that the Aliens colonised Earth it could be interesting.

3. aliens get out of hand and they nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure. In the process it gets rid of this new company, and the hybrid synths.
4. Super plot twist season 2 is alien vs predator, the predators weyland yutani buys up the area and hides the details.

the cover up angle still nullifies dramatic effect. Whether they hide it or nuke the place we already know there's little at stake, which further emphasises why this shouldn't be a prequel. If it ends up having no effect on the originals then it just ends up being pointless.

There are parts of it I like but the editing and plot armor is already killing the vibe. The whole thing comes off like a fan made series more than big budget. I think as a video game plot it would work well.

I was wondering how they were going to do Earth but it already looks like they went cheap and the people won’t leave the hub area.

The acting isn’t that great either. Why the hell is Timothy Olyphant in this? lol

I’ll wait until until all the episodes get released before checking back in.
He looks like Bon Jovi in this series. Also...the Amadeus looking scene was just silly.

was trying to help a brother out ! Gonna watch the new episod
I don’t get what you mean by the laundry room and also it’s 5pm WESTERN time. Shieeeeet
Was trying to help a brother out ! Give the first 2 episodes 2.5 outta 5

Middle of episode 3

I didn’t like how the fight played out. Alien should have ripped her in half, or cutting his head off should have sprayed acid everywhere. The blade shouldn’t have made it far enough through his body with all the acid. Also the Alien not using its tail while she had it with the meat hook felt like plot armor. And the meat hook should probably have burned off from the toothy dicktongue's blood, no?

Lots of moving pieces right now. Red head having a breakdown, kid being duped by the cyborg, a rivalry, brother maybe being implanted, and the MC's inexplicable connection to what looks like a hive consciousness.

Not really an exciting episode on its own, more so setting up the dominoes.

Yeah, I wish they would just release the episodes as one chunk instead of making you watch it week by week. I am very curious about her seeming psychic connection to the aliens. But by next week I might not give a shit lol

it was pretty cool to see the isolated organism removed from the face hugger. I wonder what would happen if something swallowed several of those at once.

I agree. Having this set before Alien is a weird choice when it could have easily been set after it, unless there's some major plot twist that depends on the story being set when it is. It changes the whole canon so I don't know how to feel about it. Also did the crew find the xeno eggs and other life forms on a different planet than the crew in Alien did?

Anyone dislike Joe as much as I do? Dude has so much plot armor he's basically invincible. How many times did he get saved at the last minute now? 4? He's also the worst actor in the whole show. Dude's a medic in a giant search and rescue operation in space ship with alien life forms, and the dude looks bored.

The xeno's behavior makes no sense. It rips through an entire squad of soldiers but for some reason decides to spare Joe and takes its sweet ass time when it's about to kill him. That whole fight was nonsense. It also didn't make sense that the cyborg dude who has a gun, decides to jump off the ship instead of blasting the others. Also why did he make the effort to call Yutani just to tell her he's going to get the aliens back? Could've just done it without calling her. Also how? Why wouldn't he ask for back up to help him on his mission? I feel like it's one of those scenes that sounds cool in the writer's room but doesn't make any sense when it's actually executed.

I did like the rest of the episode other than the weird music choice that doesn't fit the vibe of the show at all. I'm going to guess Yutani is going to send men to break into prodigy and we'll have a gun fight with the aliens getting lose and wrecking havoc.

Well, I think those things might be explained as the show goes on, but as of now I 100% agree.

I think they might try to angle that the cyborg guy figured out some kind of telepathic or wifi connection into the kids brains so thought it would be more useful to manipulate them over killing them.

With the Alien, perhaps for some reason we will find out that sleepy Joe is a perfect host for an embryo? Or that lil sister is telepathically connected to the alien so she somehow made it behave that way? There are definitely questions to be answered there and I hope the answer is not “plot armor” because this show presents itself as a smart, adult show

I think I've become numb to plot armor.

That said, I just watched a series that was far worse than this one in that regard.

Untamed.jpg

"X" and "Y" (my designations for simplicity) are National Parks Service agents in Yosemite.

X is stalking a drug dealer in the city who gets the drop on him and knocks him down with a lug wrench. Just before he lands a killing blow, Y shoots him. (Bonus points here: I challenge anyone to knock someone down with a lug wrench without doing permanent physical damage.)

Y is out in Yosemite alone and the ground gives way, dropping her into an abandoned mine. She can't climb out so explores the mine, and when the tunnel narrows she keeps following it on her belly until she gets stuck. It starts to rain, flooding the tunnel and she panics as the water rises and threatens to drown her. X calls out as he has managed to find her in the middle of Yosemite, climbed a rope to get down, and followed the tunnel she chose. He has time to calm her down and explain how she can control her breathing to escape. She calms down and backs out, minutes away from drowning.

X is out in Yosemite having a kind of duel with a sociopathic special ops operator. The operator outfoxes X, and is about to put a bullet into his brain when he delivers his "goodbye" monologue and Y shoots him dead. She had no way of knowing where they were in the park but managed to find them at exactly the right time. In the middle of Yosemite. AT NIGHT.

I'm also going to point out Y was a cop in LA and has been a ranger for about a month. She was a city kid.

Anyways, there are plenty of valid criticisms of Alien: Earth and I wish it was better but I love the world so much I'm OK with it.

Yeah, I will complain about stuff but not stop watching so to me that means it’s good enough to sweep me up in it without noticing the inconsistencies. Also I’m loving the world building too. It’s a bit of a of mix of westworld and Alien 1.

When I complain I also try to remember that even during the good seasons of game of thrones a lot of people were like “too much talking this episode…BORING” and it’s like… the words they are saying make it entertaining, Jesus Christ.

Then again this is a karate forum so people want a higher Kung Fu-vs-talking ratio in their entertainment here

Sleepy Joe lol that's perfect. You're right about the cyborg guy now I think about it. He put that chip in the Indian kid's neck before Olyphant showed up so probably made a strategic decision. But I generally I think it's poor story telling if the viewer has to speculate on reasons when characters make weird decisions. Also why does a synth still speak with an Indian accent lol.

The Xeno's behavior is really inconsistent. They need to explain that one. Why would it not attack Wendy and Joe in the container? Are they implying that it saw the sword and perhaps realizes that Wendy isn't an organic life form, and made a strategic decision to knock over the container to gain an advantage? Why is it slow when attacking Joe when it has already ripped through a squad of soldiers in seconds?

For all my criticisms, I am enjoying the show. I love the atmosphere and how they captured the feeling of the first Alien in some scenes. I just want it to be better. I am curious how the other creatures fit into the xeno ecosystem. Are they "working together" or are they just wild animals that would attack each other if given the chance?

I also wonder which canon they will use. It's been established since Aliens that the xenos have a queen, but Ridley Scott's original idea was that an individual xeno would capture a life form and turn it into an egg through metamorphosis. The latter would make more sense as to why Joe wasn't killed because there was no queen for the xeno to take him to.

Its strange how every Alien flick could be titled Alien meets Robot.

And this one is Alien meets Robot meets... Neverland? Wtf.
