Yes it states he was nabbed as part of an investigation into extremism (while under arrest for identity fraud), like many people were taken up as FBI informants in the post 9/11 era.
Apparently he was a shit-tier asset for the FBI, and that is why they disposed of him (just lol @ the double agent claims).

EDIT: Actually, i did a little digging. Apparently that shit-tier book you linked talks about Ali living in Islamberg. Ironic, as that place has been threatened with MULTIPLE terrorist attacks by good ole Americans.
