It kind of snuck up on me because I wasn't inclined to think of Alex this way, but there have been several things he's done since the loss to Ankalaev that seem sooooo familiar (and which run completely counter to the serious, laconic murderer he seemed to be prior to the loss). He's turned into a pastiche of other fighter's silly moments.

Off the top of my head, doing the Jon Jones "I was hacked" shtick after he tweeted his unhappiness about the UFC.

Then there was that dumb "the person who beat my ass ran away from me, I swear" thing last week, which countless fighters have done before.

And now he's channeling Johnny Hendricks through Tito's math:

"Honestly, I was about 40 percent for that fight, on that night," Pereira said through a translator on"The Brian Campbell Experience" (transcription via MMAjunkie.com). "And obviously it's going to be much more this time. But if I'm only 50 percent, that 10 percent is going to make such a great difference. I'm going to leave no doubt for everybody.”

We're probably going to find out he damaged his neck in that Nina Drama dancing video.

Fight four times in a year and be more active than almost any other modern champ, save card after card, but do a TikTok with Nina and post a tweet, and you're now nothing to MMA fans.
It wasn't the tweet I'm laughing at, it's the "I was hacked" defense afterwards. That doesn't seem goofy to you?

He's def not "nothing"

Just criticized for his excuses, as any fighter is.

Still waiting for him to throw water bottles at the press conference and taking dick pics to send to rappers

It was goofy because he probably had Dana or someone else at the UFC tell him to claim he was hacked, even though the original complaint in his tweet was valid. After he basically saved the UFC in 2024, it seems like they pressured him to take a short notice rematch with Ank, and he expressed his frustration there.

It wasn’t just some dumb tweet he posted while drunk and regretted.

I will grant you that he was probably in a low place when he tweeted it and I feel bad for mocking someone when they're down. However, it was goofy.

He was my favourite UFC fighter at the start of the year. Now I half wanna see him get knocked out for the annoying excuses and complete lack of credit he's giving the guy who beat him.
