Media Alex Pereira: “It won’t be Ankalaev!”

When a bunch of contenders all face each other and some also lose title fights, someone is going to come out with fewer draws and losses than the rest. That someone is Ankalaev. That makes him the number one contender, but it doesn't provide much evidence at all that he's more of a challenge for Poatan than the other contenders might be, and there's nothing special about any of his wins, nothing that reflects skills particularly likely to be effective against Poatan.
Yeah I'm going to strongly disagree with that, outside that crazy loss to Paul Craig he has been excellent and has shown a wide array of skills to challenge Alex.

As a matter of fact, I think somebody did a poll here and it was close to 50/50 as to who would be the winner.

Well, what skills, precicely are those? Ankalaev can control gassed out fighters on the ground without ever threatening a submission and he can stand and trade with other contender types. In the past four years he's finished the very finishable Walker and Smith after mediocre first rounds and shown a bunch of boring decision standup that isn't likely to work against Pereira.

No offense, but neither one of us are going to convince the other that we are correct. The only thing that will show who is correct is if the fight happens. Believe me, I want the fight to happen so I can slam dunk on all of Alex fan base. BTW, I do like Alex but I just like Magomed a little better as I believe the majority of Alex fanbase is completely delusional.

My guess is if he doesnt fight Ank it will be Aspinall or Jones at HW, Dana basically either hoping he beats Tom so Jon doesnt have to fight him and/or Jon can beat him via grappling.

Been an interesting development indeed. I suspect you're not suprised by his statement haha

Tbh, a little surprised he said it that flat out, if it means what it seems to mean. BUT if this is the case...

Rumours on facebook says it Chimaev.

... Then, it's not that bad. Though still unfair to Ank. But as far as rasslin' challenge goes... this shit gives me half a chub even just considering it!

Oh shit. Totally weird and undeserving titleshot. Like why must Khamzat leave a division everytime he wins a #1 contender fight?

But yeah as far as wrestling challenge goes, this is the one. Tough tough fight

I kinda doubt Ankalaev got that many hardcore fans outside the city he comes from..

Most of the people getting upset are more likely just poatan haters.

That being said, i dont mind seeing Alex Pereira fighting Ankalaev. He would probably knock him out midway into the fight.

Ankalaev isnt a terribly boring fighter. Its not on a Jon Fitch level.. but he doesnt shine anywhere. He is just plain. A allround okay fighter.

I want a champion that really shine in a field. Like Alex Pereira in striking, or khabib in grappling.

Ankalaev dont fight in a entertaining style..and mma is price fighting.

tl;dr you only support fighters based on the same race of you. There's a word for that
im an asian favorite fighter is machida.
i also support jones because what he achieved is almost imposible to replicate
not in this lifetime
i dont support what he does outside of mma

Well, they have history and agreed to the fight long ago. It's also one of the absolute biggest fights they could make. Alex also got a bunch of undeserved TSs, or at least questionable ones, so it seems fitting. And if they make it in time (seems difficult though), it works out well with DDP defending against Strickland.

If Khamzat wins, then he could go down again against the winner of DDP/Sttickland or they could come up. Or he defends against Ank. If Alex won't, Chimaev probably will.

But we'll have to see if it actually happens. It does fit Dana's comment about the surprise he has for 2025 though.

Good point. As a Poatan die hard, it would be nice to see him defend takedowns and KO the opponent after.

You sold me here actually but the logistics seem too complicated. Ramadan is in March. If this fight happens it should be soon.

Yeah, the timing is very difficult and at the earliest is probably gonna mid June, if it's after Ramadan. And they definitely want to do it as a PPV, so it's hard to see them do it before Ramadan. But both have been willing to step up on short notice before, so it would be possible to throw them on top of the Aussie card, lol, but not very likely. They probably want to do it in Vegas.

Not only is Ankalaev the most deserving but him vs Pereira is the best and most intriguing fight in the division. Why are some so vehemently against it happening? Makes no sense.
