Did Holloway win because of age, cardio, iq etc? Or was he the better and more skilled kickboxer? Aldo always seemed to have cleaner and more impactful strikers. Never sloppy, plus when snacks fools their heads whip back. But max did what he did against kattar. So who's the better striker, technically speaking?

Max no doubt. More variety, more composed, better poker face when he's hurt/tired. No Max didn't age anyone out, the UFC made him go on a crazy streak to earn a shot.

There's much more to it, but I'm not trying to end the convo here.

Let us not forget that Aldo rocked Max twice in the first round of their first fight and had him hurt. Max drowned him with pressure, pace and cardio. He basically did the same thing in the second fight.

Aldo at his peak is a better striker, thing is, there's a lot more to fighting than that and you can't teach Max's chin. That guy let Aldo punch himself out in striking exchanges. Having that level of belief in your ability to absorb punishment is otherworldly I'm going to assume. Aldo went out on his shield throwing both times though, especially in the second fight.

One thing's for certain, Max has an incredible chin and keep an unreal pace much better than Aldo can, that was the key in their stylistic matchup. Fresh Aldo has the explosive power that Max struggles against but once that gas tank goes down it's over for him. A passive Aldo that tries to go 5 rounds also drowns to Max, it's just not his match up.

Aldo is definitely the better striker. He was clearly outstriking Max in the first 2 rounds in both of their fights. But, Max is the better fighter. he is more durable, has a better cardio and can put better pressure and overwhelm his opponents. His output is also amazing. Unfortunately, Aldo stopped using what was his biggest weapon, his leg kicks. It's possible that his knee or an ankle is shot and he rely now mostly on his boxing, which is very good but it's not enough be the best as he once was..

Aldo has broken his foot twice and had an injury to his foot or leg going into the first fight between them.

That's only true for their first fight, and that 2nd round was a 1 strike difference. Max outstruck him every round they fought after that, including the entire 2nd fight.

This is hard to say, because they have very different styles, and styles are partly dictated by a fighter's physical attributes (power, durability, speed, cardio, reach, etc.). A long and lanky person with no power and high cardio shouldn't strike the same as a short and stocky tank with a lot of power but a small gas tank, for example.

They each have their pros and cons (Aldo is definitely better defensively, has better leg kicks, and is more powerful; while Max is superior at fighting from any stance, volume, feinting, and combinations).

Even then, some of those "cons" are conscious decisions. Max, for example, is making a decision to rely on his iron chin so he can throw more shots instead of being more evasive, since his entire game is attrition based.

Ultimately, I'll say this:

1. Head to head, Max's style of striking beat Aldo's--twice

2. Against other elite FWs, especially the best of the new school, Max's striking was more effective (Volk, Frankie Edgar).

I think cardio is the biggest thing that separates these 2.

I don't think Max is a better striker but he is a better fighter than Aldo is due to the cardio and toughness difference which also allows Max a much higher output

Aldo is the better striker but Aldo has trouble with long rangy strikers so it's a bad match for him. Same reason he lost to Conor.

The world has fallen back in love with Jose Aldo and now we're doing a bit of revisionism about where he's at in his career because he beat Pedro Munhoz and Rob Font.

Prior to those wins, Aldo hadn't been a decent favourite for a fight since he beat Chad Mendes in 2014.

I'm enjoying the love-in, but it's bogus.

Jose Aldo is a very technical striker and a world class MMA fighter, but he's not suddenly back in the same league as Holloway, Yan, or Volkanovski.

At THIS point, questions about Aldo vs Holloway are pretty ridiculous. Holloway is a better striker, more durable fighter, and better athlete.
