Aldo v Ortega

I don't see it. He can't take Aldo down and smother him. He won't be able to grind him against the fence. I just see him walking into shots. The only way I could see it is if Aldo starts trading in the pocket consistently.

Aldo is about as small as Edgar, Aldo does not have Max's range or striking ability. Ortega won't need to get him down, he'd snatch up his neck and then it'll be over. Ortega's counter elbows and punches would also be way more dangerous against Aldo than they were against Holloway.

I don't think any 5'6" MMA fighter stands a chance against Ortega.

Aldo doesn't have as much range, but Max is not a significantly better striker. I don't see Ortega being able to put Aldo in a position where he can grab the neck. I think Aldo pivots a lot and stays evasive.

Will be a very fun fight.
I actually see Ortega smack Aldo around and it will either go the distance, or Ortega will get the finish over exhausted Aldo.

If Ortega can still take a beating, he'll just wear Aldo down with his face. And let's remember Aldo does not have the boxing of Max.
Lol, Aldo has far better foot work and piviots than Max and a much better jab as well. He can't match Max's pace and pressure but he was in control for the first half of both of there fights, hits harder and has a far better kicking game as well.

Max has phenomenal pressure, volume and pace but he gets hit alot and only gets away with this style because he has unbelievable conditioning and an iron chin.

Nah, he's been KO'd/TKO3 3 times. He has some of the best kicks in MMA, and probably best TDD, but his boxing was always ok, not great.
He made a huge error and was flash KO'd. He throws wild hooks sometimes but I don't think I could name 10 guys with better boxing in MMA. Holloway was the better man in the end in both fights, but it wouldn't be wrong to think Aldo won the first two rounds in both fights.

I can name more than 10 guys with better boxing:

Holloway obviously
McGregor obviously
Dillashaw obviously
Nick Diaz possibly
Nate Diaz obviously
Jon Jones possibly
Cormier possibly
Gustaffson possibly
Whittaker obviously
Gastelum obviously

Aldo will stuff Ortega's takedowns and punch him in the face.

Jon Jones lmao!!

I don't think TJ's is, but it has improved. I actually think Aldo is slightly better than Holloway. The Diaz bros have a completely different style so it's hard to compare. I'd give you Gus, Conor, Whittaker, probably Gastelum. Not sure about DC. He is a pure in fighter. Masvidal and Cody I'd have competing for a spot.

It comes down to what you like. I think Aldo is top 10. His defense is some of the best ever in MMA. He has a good jab and has won fights with it. His left hook to the body is nice too. He's not as boxing-centred as these guys, but he does things that the others do not do with his footwork and head movement.

Most people don't realize not getting hit is just as important and aspect of Boxing as hitting and think anyone that throws a thousand punches to land a few hundred is a good Boxer even if they take a few hundred shots in the process.

Unless you're in the Boxing subform arguing about it on here is a waste of time. Aldo has the best footwork, piviots and jab we have seen in a long time as well as fantastic head movement. He get's hit less than almost everyone on that guy's list including Conor but unfortunately he got over agressive once trying to take a guys head off as quickly as possible and paid for his recklessness and then got overwhelmed by an iron chinned pressure fighter who he was clearly beating until the pressure broke him so now he will be remembered as a second rate striker and a nobody by a fickle and generally uneducated fan base. Sad really.

Now that's what a LOL looks like.I didn't include him for this very reason. How are you going to question TJs boxing, but bring up Cody as having better boxing. He has horrendous defense and technique.

It is. I mean Jon Jones ffs. Aldo doesn't have many wins via pure boxing so that is the only argument for not being respected as one of the best MMA boxers. He also has a wide skillset so we don't get to see his hands like we'd see a Diaz Bro's hands or a Gastelum's. A guy like Gastelum has many wins via punches and quick left hands, but I wouldn't say he's better technically.

Frankie has good boxing for MMA. Good combinations, good footwork, good head movement. Aldo outboxed him twice and made him look bad in the second fight via defense and a jab.

After tonight? Hard not to pick Aldo.

Ortega needs a lower level guy to bounce back from that absolutely brutal beating.

He was wild in that fight and too emotional. It was quite embarrassing but he has shown great hands and head movement.

I don't question TJ's boxing, but I prefer Cody's boxing to TJ's. Now Cody may never be able to apply his boxing to get a win against TJ, but take kicks out of the equation and no rivalry, Cody is a better boxer. I know that's a lot of ifs, but I don't think TJ is a better boxer at all.

You're saying Jon Jones has better boxing than Cody?

Really hope this fight happens next. Although I think it will be Aldo vs Moicano first and then Ortega gets the winner.

Exactly, Jose is such a complete MMAist and striker he doesn't have to rely on one specific skill but the Frankie 2 fight is a perfect example of an MMA Boxing clinic.

Well, he's isn't throwing 3 hooks in a row from his waist like a baseball pitcher, whiled getting cracked every time in return until dropped, is he?
That was a ridiculous error from Cody, but wipe away the TJ fights, especially the second, and you have a very good MMA boxer. I don't like to pretend that things never happened, but the guy has skills. Slips punches very well, lightning quick hands, the hardest puncher at 35 along with lineker.

To believe Jon Jones is better is just nuts. Jon Jones has serviceable boxing when combined with his reach, but that's it. His distance management is very good though and his fight IQ is some of the best. Not a good boxer though.
