Albazy's neck - spinal canal stenosis

Incidentally he's had surgery since this CT. If he had already had the operation you'd see the hardware.
Could that have lead to his neck snapping easier in certain chokes?

Yes

An axial and sagittal CT of his cervical spine that was in the background of a doctor's visit on the pre-show.

I do.

You beat me too it.
Axial and Sagittal views of the cervical spine.

Ideally would need an MRI or a cervical myelogram /CT combo.
Nope I am not a doctor.

I think a fracture from a choke would be pretty rare, not because a fighter wouldn't be strong to do it but because of the mechanism of going unconscious.

The jugular vein is the thing that closes off first because it doesn't have any muscle in its walls (the carotid has a muscular wall). Usually the fighter loses consciousness before a fracture occurs, unless it's someone with insane Khamzat cement grip forearms and Steve Mazagatti comes out of retirement to ref the fight.

Stenosis is not a normal English word, why don't you explain some of the jargonistic terms you used such as "severe spinal canal stenosis" in plain English?

Stenosis means narrowing.

He has:

congenital (born with it)
cervical (in the neck)
spinal canal (the place where your spine sits)
stenosis (narrowing)
and neuroforaminal (nerve root exits from the spine)
with superimposed (on top of that)
degenerative change with spurring (osteophytes, small bony points)
cartilage loss
anterolisthesis (one vertebra sliding forward on the other)
causing C5-6 impingement (he couldn't raise his shoulder over his head)
and probably chronic cord compression (not being able to walk), at least based on his pre-fight interviews
also an old compression fracture at C6 (the sixth cervical vertebra)
for which he had decompressive surgery (an orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon went in and shaved or strategically cut out some bones in his neck to open up the space)

He was so tentative with Kai Kara France and that was pre-surgery, but I suspect having a life saving operation on his spine since then made him even more timid with Moreno last night.

I said this earlier but I admit that some of this is conjecture. This is a CT not an MRI and just a single background image on a video. But the proof in the pudding is that he had the fucking surgery. So you can question or insult me as you'd like, but it doesn't matter his orthopedic surgeon confirmed that I'm right.

It's really strange that to sherdoggers a physician watching UFC is such an alien concept. We can be trash just like the rest of you assholes.

Albazy with a good neck would be FLW GOAT by now tbf imho

Appreciate the breakdown. I was wondering if you'd have any opinion on who has had some of the premiere neck genetics in the UFC from the neckiological perspective; I always thought Yoel Romero and someone like Mark Hunt had some exceptionally robust necks. Also Dan Henderson seemed to have quite the neck on him.

Not a fan of the guy but it seems he had to get an ablation on his heart as well for svt. That sucks. I've had one episode of svt, not fun.

I tapped out after 3 rounds. It felt wrong seeing a disabled guy with a heart problem up against an elite fighter in his prime.

Thank you for sharing this information, I have always wondered about this possibility.
