Once again,Cody had to go over a better, more deserving, more interesting wrestler. But at least this one had the stupidest finish ever with Cody throwing himself through a flaming table to get the win. I guess Andrade was stunned with worry about Cody and that's why he couldn't kick out.

Cody sucks.

I´ve never seen a body look so bad after a fire table spot, dude had second degree burns for real. All those crazy hardcore spots in AEW are a bigger fucking liability than CZW.

Soho/Alien Pawg was a great match. Soho was a good hire for Big Tony. She can wrestle and along with the Joshi’s will get some of the other ladies ring work better.
Cowboy Shit ain’t doing it for me, Brother. Terrible on commentary and on mic with Danielson. Put the belt on Danielson, who is a great bout machine. Protect Cowboy by having Dark Order fuckery make him lose the belt. Coach up Page plus have Dark Order v Dark Order program.
Lio got crickets. Keep his shit short on the mic and let his ring work do his talking.
Fucking Cody. Blades and fire table.
Ass Family has potential plus gives Darby/Sting something to do.
MJF/Punk has potential. Like how Punk is giving a rub to young guys.
Last night I give it 34 out of 44 Nutmans. A solid B.

I am so torn on Cody... all of this depends on how self-conscious he is.

If he KNOWS that he's being the biggest heel that wrestling has ever seen by going over everyone and having the most bombastic matches ever, that's great.

If he thinks he's actually trying to get over as a baby face by doing this, he's awful.

This is the period we will refer to as "Schrodinger's Cody."

Agree with most of this, but unfortunately I think Hangman goes over Danielson. They didn't build him up for three years just to have him lose his belt on the first defense.

This sucks because losing to Page will cut the balls off of a heel Danielson run that has potential to be epic.

If they do it right, they can keep Page strong.

I saw that gel on Codys back in the beginning of the match and thought it was fast food grease from that trash can he threw. When I saw the fire I realized it was the gel, although by that time it looked like it had mostly been rubbed off and it didn't help at all when he went through the fire. You could see the blisters on his back after the match was over.

Completely unnecessary and poorly planned spot imo, probably motivated by him wanting to prove himself to all the booers and internet trolls.

How do people not see that the overbooking is completely planned and he's fully self-aware.
Did the golden shovel and sledgehammer not give it away?

Wrestling fans gotta be the stupidest people on the planet.

What is the golden shovel about? I missed that reference.

And as to your point, I have no doubt that Cody is self-aware (he's so "meta"...) . However, I also think he may be hoping people will love him for being such a "good (ie. diaed-in, ironic) heel" that he'll come out being a hero in the end anyways. He definitely is capable of overthinking things to this degree. And he's cringey and self-important enough to think it might work.

So, he's going to become actual heel (someone the people actually hate) by trying to be such a "good heel" that he's loved. If this is the plan, great.

Cody's character is a disillusioned face that portrays an early 2000s HHH stereotype of always overbooking and winning all the time.
The golden shovel is a term used when HHH would bury wrestler after wrestler during that era.

He's showing everyone that he transcends the stereotypical face/heel archetype.
He's a face on the mic and a heel in the ring.

SMARTEST MAN IN WRESTLING

Ah, OK. I knew he was being an ironic HHH type character teasing the pedigree and stuff. Just wasn't familiar with that particular reference.

No, see, that's not the smartest man in wrestling, that's the most over-thinking man in wrestling.

Which is what I think Cody really is.

Which is why he is really a heel...

Only if it leads to a boost in business, otherwise it is just self serving bullshit.

Literally every one sees it. That doesn't mean after 2 and a half years of it still happening that people have to like it.

"Working da smarks with Triple H nods giggle giggle giggle" over and over and over and over and over doesn't make him the smartest man in wrestling. It's lazy.

Him putting himself through flaming tables and blading all of the time isn't him being a "heel in the ring" either. It's just him over thinking spots thinking fans will like the shit and the spots just flopping.

You'd be surprised.

See he's worked you already with his overbooking.

Best heel in the biz.

Well we know he's a heel, but people are boiling mad that he won't admit it on the mic lol
The question is, how do you actually book a heel who thinks he is a face? It works fine for a mid card comedy angle, but where does Cody think he is going with this?

In the meantime, while Cody thinks he is ironically burying guys like Malakai Black and Andrade, he is also actually burying guys like Malakai Black and Andrade.

And to what end?

The point is that Cody's massively overinflated ego is making him think this is the greatest shit ever, and he's putting it and himself way up on the card with a convoluted angle that is actually (not ironically) fucking over everyone else that gets involved with it.

That's how he's really being a heel, see? It's different than what he thinks it is.
