i assumed they were just trying to protect the rainmaker as a finisher. like if okada wasn’t going to win, don’t bother having anyone take it. i’m a super duper casual though, people might kick out of it all the time in japan i have no idea. cole did bump really hard on the back of his head for multiple dropkicks though so i could see that ringing his bell.
hmm i had it that the rainmaker connects on cole so it seems okada's gonna pin cole and win,
but then jay slides in with the blade runner on okada and has to choose to pin either cole or okada
jay chooses cole because cole is the easier pin of the 2 (size/strength/being ktfo by a rainmaker) plus cole literally 'backstabbed' jay in the match
(storyline going in was that jay and cole are good friends)

Adam Cole apparently got a concussion and couldn't do whatever finishing sequence they were going to do before he ate the pin, so he called an audible and just ate the pin right there.
No wonder. That match looked like it abruptly ended for sure

Sober ppv watch was a complete success! That is that i actually stayed sober. I actually fell asleep during the first match. The preshow was great though!

I did watch the show this morning and it was great. That OC/Will Ospreay match was my favorite I think. Really blew me away. I've never liked Ospreay, but the UE gimmick is a vast improvement for him. Really dug the team of Excalibur, KK and Taz. JR really brought them down once he came out. He immediately started complaining and I found was a really big dick to Kevin Kelly. To quote Taker "there's some heat there"
There was a moment where JR cut off KK just to say "It was a good match." I love JR but he's been acting like a crotchety curmudgeon ever since he joined AEW

Why does JR hate KK?
Kevin was just one of the many more polished, non-Southern rasslin’ types that Vince tried to replace JR with. Unless there’s more to the story, I don’t know why he’d take those frustrations out on him for just taking the job

JR just jealous Kelly can still do the job and not sound like grampa trying to talk to you during the movie.

And didn't Vince not like Kelly because <Steiner01>

You mean that gopher-looking Kevin Dunn, not Vince. Well, Dunn preferred Cole over Kelly because the latter argued about adding an 'e' to his last name

Sounds like pretty much everyone hated JR back in the day but he was so damn good in his prime that they couldn’t get rid of him.

I actually do not like Kelly. Just does not click with me.

But JR is god awful and needs to retire to his bbq sauce, podcasts, and alleged ladies of the evening

Their ppvs are usually pretty good.

and maybe their weekly TV would be good too if they did special named episodes and used the hype from those pretty good PPV's to keep the goodness snowballing into a regularly overall good product.

Let him bang, Sid

I just assumed it was that dominator type move (was it called the landslide or something) he gave Cole at the very end, the move Jay White pinned him after. I thought he landed a little wonky even in real time. I dunno, maybe he was fucked up before that and that final move was just the confirmation that he was done.
i just rewatched the match and this is what i saw

cole counters the first rainmaker by ducking + inzigiri which brings okada to his knees
cole superkicks okada while on his knees
cole superkick counters hangman's buckshot lariat
cole bounces off the ropes and runs towards okada
okada counters with a dropkick
cole doesn't get a hand up in time so one of okada's feet kicks cole directly in the face, the other kicks cole's shoulder
cole falls down to his back and goes noticeably limp (usually when he sells on the ground he adjusts his hair or starts leaning to the side to prepare to stand up)
okada picks up cole who is moving like rubber (look at cole's face- he's out)
okada delivers the landslide which probably makes things worse
okada goes for rainmaker which cole falls/ducks the same as before
cole can't stand back up and instead crawls forward and rolls over

sequence starts at 22:35
