I've seen plenty of people saying it was supposed to be a ppv event to take shots at AEW/Tony Khan but I've never actually seen anyone from AEW claim it was a ppv. Found a clip of Tony Khan talking from the media call before Full Gear implying it could be on Max but that doesn't mean it's a ppv. Grand Slam has always been a TV special

Yes, people have been pissed after Tony did that interview a week or two ago when he said "it's always been planned as a TV event". People from Australia have posted photos of local advertisements showing it listed as a PPV. AEW's official twitter account have been posting scheduled tweets every day advertising it as a PPV and then going back and editing or deleting the tweet. They didn't stop until 5 days ago lol, they kept posting them like dumbasses even after Tony Khan dropped his "it's always been planned as a TV event" quote

Some dirtsheets have even been clowning it posting screenshots of the tweets before they delete them.

No matter what, if you have hundreds of your ticket buyers who bought immediately when the tickets went on sale not knowing what type of event they bought a ticket for, you clearly fucked up.

"Grand Slam has always been a TV event" isn't even an excuse they can use either. Every single previous Grand Slam show had Dynamite and Rampage logos all over it. This one was always advertised as Grand Slam Australia with ZERO TV logos on it.

People who paid premium prices for a stadium show weren't given refunds and their tickets have been converted to a Collision taping at an arena that's a 45 minute drive away. Well it was supposed to be in a stadium because that's been the theme of previous grand slams. Obviously shit ticket sales changed plans on that one.

No idea how the refund situation worked/didn't work. It's bullshit if the option for a refund wasn't given, but that has nothing to do with whether AEW "initially" promoted it as a ppv event like you said.

My personal belief is Tony Khan didn't know what the fuck the show was going to be when he booked it.

People roasted him heavy for booking an outdoor stadium during Brisane's most brutal weather season from the start. It felt like AEW did zero research on what running a stadium show in the middle of their hottest months would be like.

They didn't even officially announce how it was going to air until 2 weeks ago.

Negotiating a TV rights deal and a streaming service deal could have easily been the reason why no specific show was advertised with its name attached to it.

Then don't sell tickets to a show when you don't actually know what the show is lol
