AEW AEW CXXII: OH MY MARIAH

Also where the fuck is Wardlow? Does anybody care? I don't. But the Undisputed Era has basically been a bust.

Blood and Guts, Death Before Dishonor, Collision and Battle of the Belts this week? Bit of an overkill.

It was funny watching the G1 yesterday after the conversation about the ref not counting out MJF or Ospreay. Great O Khan and Gabe Kidd spent most of the match on the outside and the commentators used "referees discretion" as the reason why he wasn't counting.

Speaking of, anyone been watching the G1? Konosuke Takeshita and Yota Tsuji had a really good match on the first night

It'd be one thing if that was a rarity, but it's constant on AEW programming. Referee incompetence is a staple of their booking. Minutes spent outside the ring, outside interference, weapons... it's all right in front of the ref and it's all the time, multiple times, every card. If they were able to control themselves and have an extended long count once or twice a month, it would feel different from the norm and therefore exciting.

Even if most of the refs enforced the rules but there was one rogue sheriff who gave leeway. Then you could say "Oh, Jim Hucklefuck is the ref here, you know he always let's the competitors do their thing", but they all do it.

Because just like New Japan it's their style of reffing. They let things go as referees discretion. I know it's not for everyone but most of the time it's not incompetence, it's done on purpose.. Obviously there are moments where inference happens right in front of the ref, which isn't supposed to happen but that happens in wrestling. Things get fucked up.

Even if that was the case people would just complain about that too because it's putting too much attention on the refs, although that's already a complaint.

That's the shit I don't like. It ain't even a big match. It's match 2 of a 9 match round robin tournament between two mid carders. It almost makes it worse that referees don't establish their authority this early in the tournament. They're basically saying "forget about me and do what you want for the next month, we don't need rules in this prestigious tournament".

One point in the match Gabe Kidd turned to the ref and goes "get the fuck back in the ring and start the count" because he had the advantage and wanted the win. Ref wasn't even considering it before that haha
