AEW AEW CVI: An #AllElite Christmas

Cody did the complete opposite at the beginning of the company. Cody is the main reason anyone knew who Tony Khan was back in 2019 because Cody talked about Tony Khan's passion for the business making him a good booker and shit like that. Cody never said wrestlers were running the company. It was always sold as Tony Khan would actually give wrestlers input on their own characters and creative freedom to come up with ideas for their own characters and they still do that to this day.

Wrasslin and sports entertainment being "two distinctly different styles"? They're both the same exact thing. The term Sports Entertainment was Vince McMahon wanting to call his company something different. Vince even went on Pat McAfee's show last year and Pat asked him why he calls it Sports Entertainment instead of wrestling and he said he loves wrestling and has no problem with the word despite what people say, he just wanted to set his company apart from everyone else.

Every wrestling company I've ever watched in my life has "entertainment" elements with vignettes, goofy characters, storylines etc. Is New Japan Pro Wrestling a "WWE rebrand" when they do a vignette and a storyline? Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan which is one of the hardest hitting sports based companies in the history of the business has goofy vignettes airing regularly right now with The Great Muta living in the mountains building up to the debut of his "daughter" that started with him spitting his green mist on a baby <Lmaoo>. WWE has never been the only company that does what I'm assuming you think "sports entertainment" is.
Sports entertainment is a way WWE promotes angles, produces segments and it filters to everything down. It could be something as small as waiting for your music to hit before coming down to save your friend from a beating or posing for the hardcam as a group after a run-in. It has been so influential the past 40 years, that most companies have adopted some of WWE's approaches.

Re Cody, you'd have to go to his interviews in 2018 or so, before it was even called AEW, hadn't been named yet and he was putting forward the values of the prospective company. It was very much for us by us, similar to that big event he had just produced with the Young Bucks without a Tony. I suspect this is why he left eventually, as he likely had a conflict with Tony over it. Very different vision for the company, compared to what it wound up being.

AEW is an ECW like wrestling company with a better budget.

Very similar 'us against the world' vibe and embracing a counterculture. Just play the Heyman 'This is the dance' speech to the locker room prior to Barely Legal, it all applies to AEW.

'Fuck you, you're wrong. Fuck you, we're right'.

Are you claiming WWE invented wrestlers playing to the hard cam? <Lmaoo> bruh

Back to Cody/Tony, your claim was Tony Khan was sold as being a silent partner, by all means link me an interview from 2018 before AEW existed where Cody Rhodes said Tony Khan was a silent partner in a prospective company.

I'm talking about a specific moment where they pose in a staged group shot for about 5 seconds without moving after delivering a beating. That's a WWE thing.

Go watch a beatdown and a run in from mid south back in the day. A bunch of wrestlers will hit the ring all at once with a sense of urgency to make the save. They dont wait for their entrance music or go one after the other. WWE did a save just recently on Smackdown with Bloodline v Styles, Orton and Knight. Then think about why WWE does it that way, and why mid south did it their way, and you will understand the WWE philosphy more.

You should go back and watch some JCP in the 80's and WCW in the 90's. No they didn't do the music, but they damn sure did the posing for hard cam after a beat down. Don't think I could count the amount of times I've seen the 4 Horsemen posing for hard cam soaking in the heat after beating down some babyfaces and holy fuck the nWo from 96-99 lol

I am talking about the choreographed nature of it, not just mean mugging the cam. A literal pose for the cam like you are taking a polaroid and cant move

It's similar to the Royal Rumble winner pointing to the wrestlemania sign

I'm pretty sure you could easily find some clips of the 4 Horsemen or the nWo on youtube doing the same thing lol

More importantly, what does this have to do with AEW? You claimed they were a WWE rebrand and that's how this started. AEW run ins are usually chaos with people brawling everywhere, shit talking the camera, jaw jacking the crowd, etc. they occasionally do the heel group pose, but is always old school style to taunt the crowd and the babyfaces.

AEW definitely does some throwback WCW tributes, but no fucking shot is anything they do in their presentation a "WWE rebrand".

Ain't no way anybody watches an episode of Dynamite where they see a 20+ minute King's Road/Strong Style match, a bloody hard core match, an indy spot monkey match, Skye Blue with her ass hanging out of her shorts, women getting crimson masks, MJF cutting promos about banging rats, lucha libre, wrestlers from other companies regularly appearing etc. and they think to themselves "this reminds me of Smackdown"

You got rather pedantic trying to argue and belittle everything I was saying, so we got off track.

I said it was a WCW/WWE rebrand, not a wwe copy, especially not of 2023 WWE. A retread down an old path rather than the revolution promised.

That revolutionay path was what Cody initially sold while Tony was more a background person. Cody would give interviews talking about the EVPs running it, healthcare for wrestlers, who they would recruit, inclusivity, and that it would finally be a wrestler friendly and run promotion rather than a type of autocratic kingdom that promotions had traditionally been.

I think it started out that way, based on who got signed. But now we are seeing an exodus of 'day 1' people leaving, saying the company changed. That will sap the fun out of it for some people, I suppose. That it's not the ECW counterculture revolution, just another wrestling org. I think AEW got a lot of goodwill based on that and it's faded

You couldn't complement Swerve Strickland earlier without first prefacing your post by saying "the first thing I've said positivity about AEW"

You've came in to AEW threads in the past and pulled the "I never watch this, but somehow know it's bad, even though I claim to not watch it and am gonna make sure to tell all of you how bad it is, even though I don't watch it and I'm gonna make sure I say several times how I don't watch it..........and yet still know it's bad".

Yes I belittled your hot takes, because I found them stupid and will probably belittle them the next time you come in here in a month or two and drop more stupid hot takes.

I'm currently bored and getting paid to be bored, so if you want me to belittle some more bad hot takes about a product you supposedly don't watch, let me know.

I am trying to watch it. But dont have time, same with WWE. Hence the monthly pop ins. But I can follow things easier on youtube.

I see AEW as a thing with potential that I want to turn good, so I give it occassional chances. But it needs things to change behind the scenes first, it seems. Bit of a headscratcher why they cant get it right. A bit frustrating

You seem like an unfufilled immature dude btw. Why so angry? You normally like this bud?

Cause he watches a lot of wrestling a week.
Who wouldn't be mad?
<mma4>

Yeah. I am a bit more detached.

To borrow a line, it's the hope that kills you. I monitor it from a distance hoping it will return to former glory. Maybe one day...maybe. The current wrestlers seem like good people however. Want them to fufill their dreams, even if I dont like the product. Not everything needs to be meant for me I suppose.

Nah, just think your posts on a karate forum sucked. It ain't that serious bruh.

Eh, I am not familiar with you outside of this conversation. Not sure if we talked before. But some dudes here hold decade long secret grudges about shit I never even commit to memory let alone forget, so I dont assume anything these days.

Was watching ROH earlier and they showed a replay of the goons winning the tag titles.. judging by their builds it was Bennett & Taven.

Its pretty funny, because I remember about 2 weeks ago everyone saying how AEW was on the right path and how much they enjoyed it.

Now AEW is terrible again, and no one likes it.
