Good luck to any wrestlers to get side control and pin Galvao.
There are levels to this shit, I even think a Tonon or a Lash could heelhook any top wrestlers with 1 year of sub defence training..
Pat Downey would get sub in a minute by a Graig jones or Diniz or Nick Rodriguez by the way
Thx for the correction. I've heard Keenan and Najmi both say Arges is the most technical guy they've ever rolled with. I hope both Najmi and Arges keep going with no-gi.
Yeah I think people are mistakenly thinking of the submission as this afterthought to a out-positioning someone. At this stage of the game many submission holds are evolving into their own control positions. Especially without the gi the idea that you need to pin someone from a position like side control or mount to be able to submit them is an antiquated one. A good wrestler doesn't need to get out-wrestled and then out-positioned in the classical sense to be vulnerable for a submission.

take him down, Yep, pin him, not a chance in the world, but if I had to put money down, a very good wrestler vs Andre at adcc, at finals, there’s a good chance of Andre losing on points, problem is the wrestler has to make it to the finals, and people don’t get -1 in the no points period, so he has to survive the early rounds
rustam is a pretty damn good overall grappler, and wrestler himself, there’s a reason he hasn’t still won a gold medal

I would favor so many people to win an ADCC finals match that I wouldn't favor to make it that far. If every match had the finals match rules then it's a different story.
And Rustam is a great example. He's one of the most underrated grapplers ever. No one wants to be in his corner of the bracket. He's the perfect pick on any given day to ruin your favorite grappler's day. But even a guy like him with very good submission defense and awareness over the years at ADCC has been subbed while playing top position. Thor heel hooked him this year (which surprised me). And I know I've seen him triangled from guard by Lovato Jr and armlocked from guard by Xande.
At the same time I saw him defeat Lovato Jr the next time around on a ref decision. So you just never know how it'll go against that guy. But he's been subbed at ADCC from inside guards despite the fact that he has higher level submission prevention and defense than most.
So Galvao relies too much in athleticism and being juiced up you say, yet you are so in awe of Nicky Rod, who just happens to have destroyed half of ADCC by using athleticism and being juiced up.

Are twisters illegal in ADCC? They do allow neck cranks. As far as I know they just don't allow full nelsons or can openers. But there are way more effective cranks than either of those. Twisters used to be illegal back in the day at ADCC but Vinny Magalhaes did one there in 2015. So I would think they're still legal now. Regardless you're never going to see that many of them.

Galvao without the gi is a back hunter. It's that simple. He wants the takedown to the back to the RNC. If he can't get the back after he passes he's got a really mean north south choke. He's incredibly technical though and even though he's athletic if you ever get a chance to roll with him you'll notice he's not the most physical grappler once it gets to the ground. There's a lot of physicality on his standup but his groundwork is surprisingly floaty.

are people really suggesting you can win ADCC by just wrestling and "untangling" when people attack with submissions?
guys like pena don't give two shits about being taken down, they'll just scramble to the back as soon as they hit the mat. same thing with tonon, or a dozen other high level competitors.
now, a high level wrestler with BJJ training is another thing entirely. having the ability to take people down and the base to avoid being swept goes a long way in nogi. every two years, we see a stronger influx of wrestling in the games of the top BJJ nogi competitors. but a world class wrestler (with little / no BJJ experience) landing in the guard of a world class BJJ competitor? that ends with the wrestler tapping. that's it.

Rustams sub *prevention* is garbage. He got triangled by Lovato when he put one arm inside of a closed guard.
You know Lovato Jr has the most closed guard triangles at adcc right?
