ADCC 2019

This is one of the most inspiring things in BJJ. Great message.

Lachlan is that dude you know in your life - he does all the right things and nobody knows why he just can't get the girl, the job, the big break, whatever. Then it finally happens. Well deserved.

He more or less said straight up that he got smoked in the gi by Keenan to the point where he had to reevaluate his ability to win anything. His no-gi gripping strategies transfer fine, but he needed years of work on grip defense and counter-gripping strategies to be effective at the top level.

"Nice ADCC gold you have there. Put on a jacket and let me show you worm guard." *ego explodes*

F*** the gi. ADCC is way more prestigious than any gi shit tournament. Nogi >>>>>>> gi anyday. Way toooooo many rules in gi. And it's unrealistic. Nogi all the way.

Btw who is the most decorated adcc champ ever?
I think it'd kind of debatable depending on what you put the stock in.

Just talking most gold medals? if you count superfights, I think it's Andre Galvao.

If you're talking sustained gold medals in one bracket, so far no one has gotten more than 3 consecutive. Marcelo got 3 gold then 1 silver then 1 gold. Cobrinha got 3 consecutive gold. Royler has 3 consecutive gold.

I don't think anyone's ever had more than 3 consecutive gold in any weight class, because Mo (the ADCC organizer this year) was saying if Cobrinha had participated and won this year that he'd be the first person ever to have a 4-peat at ADCC.

More and more I want to see Gordon compete in the gi. Pans and Worlds at his level. I'm truly curious how he would do. It cant be THAT different especially how his nogi is so good. I mean who cares dont even use the gi in your grips, hes that good.

Just really curious. Imagine if he gets double gold in gi pan and world's like he did in nogi this year
No, it really is that different. Especially these days with lapel guard variants and the excellent level of outside passing.

Gi is rapidly evolving off in its own direction.

i'd still pick marcelo just for the way he won those medals. cobrinha, as absolutely amazing as he is, still had some stinkers in there.

marcelo just walked through people, submitting everyone left and right. and even in his loss to popovitch, he lost by a cunt's hair and grabbed marcelo's shorts throughout the whole match. garcia was without a doubt the best no gi grappler at 77kg for well over a decade.

whenever ADCC accomplishments are discussed, i just can't leave out ricardo arona. he won his division twice and the absolute once, and a super fight after that. he has to be the most boring champion ever, but he's also the only champion never to have a single point scored against him at ADCC... which is just retarded, considering the level of opposition he was facing.

Gordon is way on his to be fair... he walked through his division like it was a piece of cake (saved the hulk match). Now the thing vs Marcelo is the absolute. Marcelo was too small to win it all, although he could’ve done it with a bit more of luck and game planning vs Robert...galvao will never ever get to Marcelo’s level simply due to the fact that he wasn’t as dominant as Marcelo, many matches won on points let alone dude is got some blood on his roidstream, this last version of galvao was just ridiculous

yeah gordon definitely has potential to be one of the best ever. i can't really explain why, but i have a feeling he won't be sticking around for too long though. maybe i'm wrong.

but as of right now? i can't think of anyone having a better ADCC career than marcelo.

This is one of the funniest things I've seen in BJJ.

If you watched adcc you see guys like this every once in a few years. Most just fizzle out, others like Marcelo go on dominant runs for years. How will he turn out? Who knows

Anyone know who's the big guy that gave Nicky Rod the purple belt? I thought it was John Danaher that's supposed to be doing that.
Jay Regalbuto, he's a black belt at South Jersey Jiu Jitsu - a Ricardo Almeida association school. It's the gym that Nicky Rod started yet (and continues to train at judging by instagram), similar to how Garry Tonnon started with Tom de Blass as well as training with Danaher

The Australians didn't come out of nowhere, they've been toiling away like everyone else who's found success.
Australia has a rich immediate history of jits ie look up John Will, Peter De Been, Bernie Jenkins... George Sotiropoulos, Elvis Sinosic……..
I like that the boys down under are being celebrated but no one should be shocked or surprised and also shouldn't be when the rest of Oz come up

There is a huge jump into actually being at an elite level.
Levi/Lachlan/Craig and head and shoulder above the guys you mentioned.

Oh me too. I was just discussing the literal amounts of consecutive medals won.I was just saying that factually he, Cobrinha, and Royler all have won 3x consecutive in their weight classes (and Marcelo has a 4th gold from another year obviously).

Marcelo is the GOAT of ADCC in my book. I don't think anyone will eclipse what Marcelo did on those white mats.

Rodney Ellis too.

But I do agree with @yetanother that Lach, Craig, Levi, and Kit are another notch above.

I thought previous to the buchecha match that Gordon was actually on another level, i don’t think so now. Doble gold is awesome, but he still doesn’t have a clear case over pena...
I really despise his behavior but man that’s some tough standards. He swept Buchecha and Buchecha wasn’t trying to engage that much either. Also before the absolute bracket even starts all those guys are exhausted.

Besides that he submitted 6 or 7 for 8 matches (all RNC too I think) while being injured and not fully recovered. He also did it using a surprisingly small number of techniques. Knee rap takedowns. Half guard passes to mount to the back. Butterfly guard to back or hooks sweeps back into the half guard pass series.

Keenan was commentating and was saying that Gordon is so far ahead of everyone and says that he’s have had no shot to beat him. One interesting thing he said is how slow and not very explosive or athletic Gordon is. I’ve said it for several years now.

Sure he’s big and strong. I’ve felt his grips and they’re strong. But he is kind of a slow guy and Keenan was just saying he has to slowly dismantle you. He’s sort of the no-gi version of Roger.

Pena has the two wins over him but I don’t see how anyone can look at Gordon’s technique and how he’s buzz sawing through everyone and not think he’s the last guy anyone wants to face no-gi.

Totally serious question. If you were forced to choose would you rather have Pena’s no-gi game and skills or Gordon’s no-gi game and skills?
