News ABC Conference (Commissions Meeting) ; New MMA Rules Proposed, Discussions on judgings, etc.

I would love if they correct the rules being biased/protecting wrestlers

E.g. upkicks, knee to grounded opponent and elbows

Also great would be to have some sort of framework to avoid lay and pray and backpacking.. so the ref to seperate them if there is no advance in position , sub attempt or sig strike after 30 seconds or whatever

Last but not least more point deductions for eye pokes

I am pro open scoring too
Open scoring makes the fight inorganic.

The grounded thing will be really hard to rule during the fight.

Imagine the corner yelling "he's not holding weight, knee his fucking face!"
Impossible to call.
after the first clean knee the hand would likely then be holding weight, hard to tell when to stop kneeing.

This eye poke rule should have been affected years ago. It's insane, watching these refs just harass these guys who've just been gouged in the eye.

"Can you fight??? Huh?? Look at me. Are you ready??? Ok, call in the doctor."

How about mandatory 1 point deduction for: groin stikes, eye pokes, fence grabs, etc...

Allow all strikes to downed opponent for fucks sake. This stupid game playing is so annoying.

if they do open scoring, i really hope they reveal which judges scored for which fighter. Bad judging has been accepted as normal for too long.

i'm not for open scoring because it removes the element of surprise (hence, a degree of entertainment), a happy medium could be to reveal the scores only after specific rounds (i.e. R3 for five round fights, R1 for 3 round fights)

The obvious changes almost all fighters and fight fans want:

1. Being grounded should mean your back is on the mat, hands/knees/fingers don't mean shit (if you don't want to get knee'd/kicked in the head then go to your back or stand-up).

2. Allow upkicks from the bottom - if the guy sitting in your guard isn't technically grounded (since his back isn't on the mat) you should be able to kick him in the face. This will create dynamic attacks/scrambles from this position, no more laying in guard to control guys without some added risk (will also create guard passing opportunities).

3. Get rid of the 12-6 elbow rule, we all know it's pointless.

They aren't going to be able to fix the scoring anytime soon, the least they can do is adjust the rules to encourage more fighting and less stalling/gaming the rules.

But I don't expect much from corrupt lawyers and political appointees - they are too concerned with important things like the "color of knee sleeves" for the time being...

Win bonus only comes if they finish an opponent. Only the small cage is used.

I agree, change the definition of a grounded opponent, if you’re on one knee or both knees in mma. You’re still in a defense and dare I say offensive position,

..."the color of neoprene sleeves..."
I had to google that to know wtf that even is. THIS is what these assholes have conferences about?

More to come

The Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) is set to convene for its annual summit July 22-27 at Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, N.Y., the organization announced Friday.

The first two days of the conference will consist of referee and judge classes. Meetings will run the final three days with topics such as potential rule changes, medical practices, sports policies, safety issues and committee updates under discussion.

"The proposed rule change will treat eye pokes fouls as we do low blows"
Yes, they both still will be legal for the first 3 or 4.
