ABC chief 'appalled' at Till weightcut, calls for corner suspension

Agreed.

I think they should weigh in an hour before they fight.
No one could be that stupid as to still cut weight.
unfortunately, you know some would risk it.

But the ideal is good, I would think in expanding a little bit.
Imagine if they start weighing fighters in a month prior to their fight, and then just monitor daily, not allowing any big changes from that weight until the day of the fight.
No one will be able to stay dehydrated for that long, and it won't cost much to check, since it just needs a scale.

Yes, I understand.

My entire belief system, when it comes to MMA, is that less is more.
I want fewer rules and regulations. No following fighters around, piss in this cup, step on the scale, etc.

But I agree with you. Some moron will look for that "advantage" and try to cut just before the fight. However, I still think that they would have less of a chance of seriously hurting themselves by fighting somewhat dehydrated as opposed to the way some of them are doing it now. Until blind?? That can't be healthy.

That's the thing though.
We have seen numerous videos about terrible weight cuts.
Aldo was famous for it.
JJ claims she felt she would die
Cyborg was hospitalized after her fight at 140Lbs...

Hendricks, Pettis, AJ and the list goes on and on...

IMHO if you are blind the night before the fight, you should not be fighting period!
But as long as they allow someone to basically kill themselves, then they can't complain is someone actually does it.

Hehehe, yeah, I was on my spinning bike finishing off a workout just now - while posting at the same time - so I should be excused for not being totally clear headed, I think. Took me a few seconds to realise what I had just done. ;)
Dude that seat, your poor prostate. I wouldn’t be thinking straight either after being on a spin bike.

You're talking about stopping main events right before they start. Packed arena, buzzing crowd... then the announcement of no fight.

I do not think the sports commissions or promotions are going to take that suggestion seriously, if it has merit or not.

Maybe the day of.

Ok, so why not surprise visits to camps to do a weigh in to see what they are weighing when not going through a full fight camp?
Or weigh the fighters as soon as the fight is announced? Then post the weight class they will be fighting in.
Miss weight, 75% of your purse is gone! Have to weigh in again the next day, say noon and you can't weigh more than the next weight class!
Fines and repercussions have to be stiffer or they are going to keep doing this.
