After watching UFC welterweight Darren Till cut weight, the head of the Association of Boxing Commissions believes another death is around the corner in MMA.

“I was appalled seeing seven people sit there and push this kid to the point where he lost his vision,” Mike Mazzulli, who also serves as the director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, told MMAjunkie after watching a video of Till’s weight cut released today.

In the video, which was released by Till sponsor Paddy Power, the U.K. star struggles to make weight for his fight against Stephen Thompson at UFC Fight Night 130, which took place this past Sunday in Liverpool, England.

I underestimated the lengths Till would go to to duck MW and LHW.

Yeah this guy shouldn't be fighting at WW.

The length that some fighters will go to gain a size advantage SMH.
<{cruzshake}>

Every time I see a fighter about to collapse during a cut, I go "fight in your own weight class, coward."

Why do you think that about yourself?

Ah, I see you caught that!

Hehehe, yeah, I was on my spinning bike finishing off a workout just now - while posting at the same time - so I should be excused for not being totally clear headed, I think. Took me a few seconds to realise what I had just done. ;)

The question is - why would you upload this in the first place? These days athletic commissions also have internet access, at least keep it quiet if you wish to abuse weight cut so much...

UFC just need to step in and not offer guys like Till fights, in weight classes they clearly don't belong in.

At least the guy tried. Unlike some fighters...

This was a great response. However, trying or not, I believe both fighters should be made to fight in the next weight class up.

You either:

a) can't make weight because you are too big

or

b) have not interest in cutting weight

I've said this for years. Why not implement new weigh in rules?
I think the regular weigh in time is good, BUT, have a second weigh in right before you walk to the ring and you can't be weighing more than the next weight class above you? So if you are fighting in 170, you can't weigh more than 185.
There is no reason why a fighter fighting in 170lbs should be weighing more than a MW fighter or in some cases almost LHW.

It's too easy to come up with an abundance of correct answers to resolve this, yet the powers that be won't enforce anything, it's not in their interests and it is not their bodies

Makes his acceptance of a fight with Cerrone even more cowardly.

its hilarious that tills sponsor released the video, so he is making money out of looking like shit and failing to make weight

LOL!

Guy gets off his spinning bike class and calls fighter coward <45>

Till gets to fight with a major advantage and then sympathy b/c "he tried so hard". Its crazy.

This needs to be a Rumble Johnson or Gastelum scenario - tell him he needs to move up.

Also, I just want to point out I don't think Till is a coward or ducking anyone. This is the culture of the sport and he is far from the only offender.

One of the biggest skills in the sport is cutting weight. If you can do that effectively you have a serious advantage. Conor did it for a time, Holloway is doing it now. Woodley is a big welterweight. It is part of the sport at this point.

For fighters to stop there are going to need to be rules in place, fighters are always going to try and find any advantage they can.
