Abandoned franchises/IP's that need revitalizing

There aren't enough games that capture those vintage Chinese martial arts films, or John Woo's crazy violent shoot outs, with cool cinematography. Sleeping Dogs is the goat, but Sifu, Hong Kong Massacre and Stranglehold held it down, along with True Crime. Cyberpunk invokes them too.

Has a spiritual successor at least

And the obligatory answer to this thread is....

What was the spiritual successor to Bushido Blade?

I loved the Tenchu PS1 games. Coming from the genesis was wild. Doesn't From Soft own the franchise? I'd love a new one, but not a Souls-like.

Sekiro started off as a Tenchu game in development

I remember when it came out. I still hadn't clicked with Souls games (never did with Sekiro), so I was hoping it was more Tenchu than anything.

I'm going to have to fire up Tenchu 2 again at some point though, always my fav of the series.

I loved that game. Did you ever play the first True Crime game, Streets of LA? I think Sleeping Dogs was a spiritual successor. I always tied them in my head anyway, while ignoring the New York one, it was so busted on PC.

I haven't actually. There was a period of my life that I lived overseas and I missed out on a lot of games during that generation. I've owned every Sony console but PS5 is the first one from them that I've actually owned from day one. It's almost a shame that there are so many great games coming out each year because it means I'm usually too distracted to go back and play stuff I missed out on.

Sifu was amazing though, I got the platinum in that game. And yes I'm going to brag, I did it before they added the easy mode lol. The toughest challenge was beating the game before you age past 25. I think I ended up beating it at age 20 or 21. Key is repetition, eventually you just master each level. Their next game is a soccer game, I was hoping for a sequel since I'm not big into that sport. It does look good though just not for me.

I don't think you'd want to go back and play the True Crime games, especially the sequel. The first was great for its time (PS2 era), as it was basically janky Sleeping Dogs in LA. You played an Asian cop too. The sequel was a mess though. It could have been better in every way, but it was rushed and beyond unpolished.

I really liked Sifu, sucks to hear they aren't actively working on a sequel. Any chance their soccer game is like Shaolin Soccer? :D

Here's a trailer. Admittedly, it does look cool. It's just one of those things that isn't for me. Maybe if it comes to PS Plus or gets heavily discounted I'll try it out.

That actually looks pretty cool, kinda like rocket league.

Black and white. It and its sequels were huge at the time and pretty revolutionary. What's even crazier is you cannot buy it now. Not the original let alone a remaster.

Made by Peter Molyneux of Fable fame, it is seemingly lost in IP hell. Microsoft owns the studio who made it, but EA owns the IP.

Do they still make Flashback/Abe's odysee type games?

and the end result is nothing like Tenchu, sadly.
The first Tenchu, flawed and buggy as it was, was SO MUCH FUN and they never have managed to make any of the sequels better for some odd reason

The Mark of Kri

I believe it got a slap dash sequel of sorts, but the original was amazing and had some truly revolutionary features.

I bought this game based on a super high IGN review and on the idea that I could create and customize a martial arts badass who'd kick ass and take names.

The customization was there, the conversations and quests were a bit much, but the actual fighting (the most important part) was GARBAGE.
