I agree. I actually prefer ordering a great burger from a restaurant because I can't/won't make a super high quality burger at home but I can make a great steak at home. I am not normally going to get a cheddar jalapeno bun, deep fry onion straws, deep fry jalapenos and make bacon for a burger at home but I can and will buy a nice steak and make it exactly how I like it.

i can debunk the "steak is better than borgir" theory...

steak tastes like beef. beef, beef, and more beef. im no vegetarian, but its the same flavor ALL OF THE TIME.

burgers have soul. mushroom swiss. bacon and sharp cheddar. teriyaki pineapple. OR MY CURRENT FAVE: the "el diablo" burger at carls jr... it has jalapeno poppers on it! so good!

A really good burger can rival some steaks. It can't rival a really good steak.

Edit: I'm just beginning to understand how many people have not had a really good steak.

You can do the same with steak.

Skirt steak with a nice chimichurri. Prime rib with an au jus and some horseradish. Ribeye with some mushrooms, onions, and garlic butter. Et cet et cet.

A burger is better than a cheap steak. I would choose a burger over round, chuck, or flank. But the better cuts are not even in the same ballpark. It's like saying chicken nuggets are as good as Fried Chicken.

You guys are really just admitting you prefer sandwiches to straight beef. If you took that "great steak" and gave it the exact same bun and condiments the ground beef patty has it would taste better.

Streak > a ground beef patty. Period.

A really good steak is hard to beat, but steak falls off quickly from the best cuts. SO a great / good burger is relatively easy to find while a good or better steak is more difficult.
And of course, cost is a factor, if I could afford Ruth Cris every night the steak is easy to find.
At the casual dining price point, I would choose Red Robin over Outback or Longhorn 7 out of 10 times.
*side note: my daughter asked for turkey Chomps meat sticks the other day - $28 a pound, the same as grass fed Wagu (or at least the Wal-mart Wagu)

Meh, I think food does not have an absolute hierarchy. There are many foods that are as good as food gets in my opinion and a lot of it depends on multiple circumstances'. A great steak with excellent sides is as good as food gets, a great burger with all the accoutrements is as good as food gets, lasagna, linguini with clams, even biscuits and gravy can be as good as food gets. Street taco or a great burrito can be as good as food gets. Any one of these and probably many more can be better than any of the others depending on what your in the mood for. I also think taken on a whole burgers are better than steak. A fast food burger or a crappy restaurant chain burger like Applebee's is going to be better than a steak from Applebee's so you cant really say that "Steak> a ground beef patty".
