Why "should" Volkan win?

Notice how everyone who says Shogun has no chance/Volkan will run him over, CAN NEVER offer any actual technical analysis to support those statements

Volkan is not the one who's the bad match up for Shogun

People are going to be surprised.

This idea that Shogun is the one with a punchers change is absurd when Shogun has the superior boxing skill

Plus Shogun is the more well rounded fighter

Even if Volkan manages to land on the feet what happens if Shogun takes him down? Volkan is terrible off his back. On the ground it's about 90-10 in favor of Shogun

People have every right to feel that way

I just don't subscribe to that notion at all

Shogun gave Gustafsson a very tough competitive fight. Gustafsson in his very next fight went and beat Jones

When Shogun is on Shogun is still up there with the very best.

Shogun has only improved since then too, and now he's finally consistent with his much improved footwork, TDD, and dramatically improved boxing skill

However, I get that DC is a terrible match up for Shogun with the wrestling

BUT DC is old and may just retire soon or may no longer be a LHW.

Shogun has the potential to win the belt again, especially if he keeps improving

Look at what happened to Robbie Lawler. He went on a run out of no where and won the belt against all odds

Heck, I would love to Shogun rematch a CLEAN Jones where Shogun actually gets a full camp to prepare for Jones. With Shogun's improved TDD, footwork and boxing, I see no reason why he can't beat the same clean Jones who looked like shit against Osp

I think Shogun will have his opportunities to win and I hope he wins but it wont be easy. I think hes better on the ground than Volkan and could surprise him there. Volkan can start to swing wide though..

Volkan is a good combination puncher, but Shogun will be great at covering up and countering Volkan in between his combos (look at that gif vs Gus for reference, and Shogun has only improved his boxing tend fold since Gus)

But yes, Volkan does work exclusively behind his jab, covers ground behind his jab, sets up combos off his jab etc

I like Volkan and Volkan is a good technical striker (more then people give him credit for)

Volkan is legit and has good skill

But it's because of his relience on his jab, when I looked at footage and said, Shogun is the one who can be a bad match up for Volkan

Go watch the Villante fight, Shogun single handedly won that fight via countering the jab

Villante is a lot like Volkan in that both work a lot behind their jab

And Shogun was countering literally every jab attempt from Villante

Volkan is a good striker but he's not anything truly special

He is NOT some sophisticated jabber like a Conor McGregeor who's always mixing up his jabs with fients/changing the speed of his jabs/using a variety of jabs. He's not no Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor genuis

Volkan doesn't dusguise his jab well, is easily timed, and gets fairly predictable with his intentions

Shogun is going to have an easy time countering his jab and making Volkan pay every time he jabs ala Villante

And every time Volkan does press forward like he typically does he runs the risk of running into big counters from Shogun

Volkan's biggest strength is dirty boxing. Volkan generates huge power from inside

Shogun absolutely needs to be careful on the feet but thats what Shogun especially needs to watch out for the most, clinching range. Shogun must use footwork, stay out of clinching range at all times, and if in the clinch be as absolutely defensively responsible as possible and ready to defend at all times
