Welterweight contender Belal Muhammad is rooting for Leon Edwards to defeat Colby Covington in their UFC 296 title fight.

Edwards (21-3) and Covington (17-3) are slated to compete for the welterweight title on Dec.16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. While many fans were critical of the American receiving the title shot, UFC CEO Dana White was adamant that the former interim champion was worthy of a title shot despite his inactivity in the division.

Muhammad, who is currently on a 10-fight unbeaten streak, was hoping to secure a title shot against Edwards before Covington. However, the promotion had other plans.

Muhammad and Edwards faced each other in the Octagon back in 2021. The bout was ruled a no-contest after Edwards accidentally poked Muhammad's eye 18 seconds into the second frame, rendering "Remember The Name" unfit to continue.

I still think Leon pieces Belal up tbh. Maybe Belal has improved more than I think he has, or Leon hasn't improved as much as he seems to have done, but I haven't seen anything from Belal that would change what was happening in the first fight. Where he was well on his way to being finished before the unfortunate eye poke.

Leon is just a better class of striker, and given the defensive wrestling improvements we saw in his last fight, I can't really see Belal being able to get the fight to the ground often if he isn't liking what's happening on the feet.

Despite all that, he still earned the title shot and deserves the right to get his ass kicked or kick some ass tbf sir.

Belal needs to fight and keep beating guys.

Because at this point his talking game ain’t earning him anything. And it’s not even about him deserving it anymore, he’s getting passed up on by being less charismatic. Beat everyone and become undeniable.
He has 4 wins over top 10 contenders, more deserving than anyone in the division of a title shot.

That's gonna be a no from me, dog.

Considering he should be the one fighting for the title, I'd say the UFC is trying hard to keep him from being remembered tbh with you sir.

forgot all about Belal and will forget again in 3.2.1..

Absolutely. No question about that. He's by far the most deserving.

Colby getting first dibs is a joke. Won't hear any arguments from me.

Belal is not a bad guy but damn I can't find any good reason to support him as a fighter due to his style. He is a decision machine like decision Dan during his period and Gsp at the end

Edwards is a bad match up for Belal, and hopefully Colby - but there's an outside chance Colby beats both (please no...)

Leon wasn't troubled by Belal at all in their brief first encounter.

Feed him to Usman.

Same. I don't dislike Belal, by all accounts he's a good natured man and a likeable guy, but his style has literally never left me wanting to see him fight again. He did get a KO recently, and I've wondered where that was all of these years. He's been in the UFC forever now, has like 2 finishes against a career's worth of decisions.

I understand playing to your strengths and sticking to a gameplans, but, ffs...
